Good morning all.....can I just complain for a moment?......
Oh good I knew you'd all say yes......

Christmas day came down with fever, chills and extreme fatigue. This lasted 2 days.......then the sore throat and congestion........now absolutely no sense of smell and my ears are plugged. Everything is started to loosen up so hopefully this means good things. Ok....done complaining.

I'm making my spring chicken wish list. .....I'd like a BCM, another OE, an Isbar and 2 EE bantams. There are many more I'm interested in but that's my hope for this Spring. What's on y'alls wishlist????
Ugh! That stinks. :hugs Get well soon.

I'm not really sure. Unfortunately, I think I'm slowly being shoved out of breeding PCs, not by choice. They keep having freak accidents or dying. I'm going to have to put down my breeding cock today... wry neck. I was going to give him a few weeks, but he can't drink or eat even if I help him and whatever goes down he vomits back up when his neck curls again. It's not fair to keep him alive until he starves or chokes to death. I might just go for the bantam Buff Chanteclers (as long as they stay alive too) and get 20 leghorns and 10 CX in the spring as more of a production bet. Just for now, I mean. I love the PCs and I'd be shocked silly if I never got them again. I only have about 16 chickens right now, which is the lowest # I've had in years. I mean, that's not counting ducks and quail, but I'm planning on another coop for them, so...

Just saw this.
I’m sorry I missed a lot of posts over the holidays.
First stop was near short pump, then Charlottesville, then Afton mountain on the edge of the Blue Ridge.
So pretty far from me. Short Pump is near Glen Allen, where they have that huge swap twice a year.

Hi there Annamarie, My flock is an “urban flock” and they live a very happy and pampered lifestyle.
I look at their eggs as the best, most special part of any recipe I am cooking up.
When I collect them, I can usually tell who laid them because you come to be able to identify the nuances of each hen’s eggs.

If I’m outside when they are laying I always thank them by name and make a bit of a fuss over them.

The production of an egg is such a complicated and fascinating achievement, I would never let them go to waste.
Oh I agree :) I couldn't give away her first eggs. I plan on eating them this week. :) My girls are extremely spoiled. I know they are going to be amazing.

If I could without hubs having a fit i'd add a dark and light brahma and a jubilee orphington maybe a little white leghorn too.:)

I'm really wanting an Ameraucana or Easter Egger... I love the blue and green eggs. I have 2 Barred Rocks and 1 Leghorn. I'm so scared of messing up the dynamics of the coop. The girls are so good together right now. Hopefully that won't start fighting....
