Official Squatch Watchers

@Suzi18 Usually the problem with more roosters is not enough females. Either the girls are harassed and over bred or the boys start to fight over them. Depending on who you ask depends on the answer you get for how many girls per boy. Generally I see 7-10 hens for each rooster.

I need some advice. As you all know I have some Seramas. One hatched 2 chicks in August and of course they are both roosters. So now I ha e 3 Serama roosters. Although Seramas are extremely sweet and gentle I worry about having 3 roosters. So far they seem to get along fine but I worry about them eventually fighting. What do you all think? Can 3 roosters get along ok?

Hey Suze, totally following this, cuz our Serama situation sounds about the same, lol!

I'm currently up to 5 cockerels and 13 hens/pullets (and that's the max for me, can't go over 20).

My first round of Seramas with the two boys...the two boys get along awesome and there have never been any squabbles. Grumpy is sweet and submissive and more like a hen.

When I hatched out the new babies, there were three cockerels and two girls who are living with the original bunch. So that's 5 males in one coop and run with (at the time) 8 girls. It was too crowded in there, and while everyone has been getting along so far, my one little cockerel, Tio, was getting a little dominant.

Yesterday I did some personnel changes so that the coops/runs are more balanced, since after my EE got killed I only had 5 LF in one area.

Now I have 10 in the big one (my 9 bigger girls and Tio) and 8 in the small one (Seramas and Serama/Silkie mixes). There are 4 boys in that one. We'll see how it works out...I know it's too high of a ratio of males to females, but Seramas seem to be more docile. I would love to get rid of the two extra boys, but nobody's biting!

Keep me posted on your situation with the boys, I'm really interested. I think ours are all about the same ages too...

I have 14 hens but only about 8 are mountable size for a Serama Rooster. I guess I'll just have to see how it goes

I certainly will keep you posted. Lucky for us Seramas are so sweet. My original rooster Thor is just wonderful. So far his 2 boys...Magnus and Winston seem sweet also. Hopefully they will stay that way

It's funny watchng them try to mount, isn't it?!

Poor Grumpy (he's a silkied Serama) was always trying to mate with my Silkies when they were in the same pen, and he could never do it. It was hilarious watching him chase them around, grab a bit of fluff from any random part of the body, and then try to hang on for dear life. Kinda like the two times in my life I tried to ride the mechanical bull, lol! :lau
