Official Squatch Watchers

Dorkings are full sized chickens. They have five toes and have a bit shorter legs than a lot of breeds.

They are classed as dual purpose meat.

The problem is that the breed has been messed up over the years.

yellow house farm worked for years to get his white dorkings back to good shape:

So they are the corgi of the chicken world. Normal dog w/ short legs. My daughter wants one, but I'm not sure how well they'd fare here.

Oh gosh I’m not saying it isn’t cringeworthy! And this other one is as well!

I guess that’s why it’s called chicken PEOPLE.

maybe a better title would have been WEIRD CHICKEN PEOPLE

or better yet, WEIRD CHICKEN PEOPLE ILLUSTRATE CHICKEN MATH! :D
I'm not sure they'd even qualify as weird by chicken people standards. Maybe a tad unusual... but their enthusiasm for chickens is on par w/ the rest of us.

Ah, they aren't responsible breeders. They are examples of chicken math gone haywire.
2 of them are... the other one.. I can't recall, but he must have an egg operation going on w/ all the females he has. He's definitely not a backyard chicken keeper. He has a full on farm w/ at least 1 huge barn that's all chickens.
Here's the trailer if you're interested in getting an idea of what it's all about:

Good morning! Everyone has been fed, only disaster is Lulu has a comb bite but somebody always has a comb bite! The closer spring gets the more bites, it just happens.
Looks like the consensus is Rene is a midget, or mini "that sounds nicer, thanks Henny". I swear weirdness just seeks me out. :lau
I wonder if that Pick-No-More stuff would work on their combs. I'd tried it on Odin's tail feathers, but I'd have to have bathed him in it to get them to stop.

I can't find it either except for Amazon and I tunes... I want to watch it on my TV.
Does your local library have Hoopla? Our library has it on there and if you have a Roku you can watch it on there for free, or Vudu has it for free too (according to the internet, I haven't confirmed). Your local library may also have it on dvd, mine does.

I think we should make a documentary.....'Squatchy Chicken People' Who in their right mind wouldn't want to see wtf that was all about
LOL It's be 90% us sitting around on our phones/ computers on BYC and the rest would be feeding chickens and picking up poop.

Yay!!!! This is a puppy milestone for sure!

My feelings were yup, they were nutty, but I’m certain that was purposely highlighted in postproduction.
Oh, certainly. I'm sure there was "normal" people there, but those aren't going to be shown. But then watching the trailer I'm like Hmmm I do that (the lady demonstrating the wing dance)... then I think.. yep, I'm freakin' nuts.

Which thread is this? His aggressive cockerel thread? I saw he culled the bird.
I hope he did it right & didn't enjoy it too much. He seemed like the type who would be that way.

I need some advice. As you all know I have some Seramas. One hatched 2 chicks in August and of course they are both roosters. So now I ha e 3 Serama roosters. Although Seramas are extremely sweet and gentle I worry about having 3 roosters. So far they seem to get along fine but I worry about them eventually fighting. What do you all think? Can 3 roosters get along ok?
I had 3 boys at once my first year. Odin and Willie always got along pretty when, but when Steve came out as a boy he didn't get along well w/ Willie, but I think that was b/c Willie was mad that Steve wasn't a girl. He was wing dancing for him hard before that. Then when I got the 2 boys this year they all got along fine for the most part, but the boys were super into the girls and were going after them and forcibly trying to mate them (no wing dancing or anything). At this point I'd keep an eye on them and see how things go. Then rehome as necessary. Like Nunny said, I'd be more worried about the girls being over mated if you don't have enough females.

You’d be surprised how those little guys can go! LOL
Yeah, Willie gets on w/ any of my girls who will have him. Now when I have the lav orps, those boys were so huge it looked like an elephant trying to balance on a basketball. They were so much larger than any of the girls and were so persistent that they would stalk the girls and wait for them to turn away before jumping on.

I’m currently at 1 Bantam Rooster and 8 Bantam girls.
With 2 roosters and 9 girls. 2 of the Bantam girls are mixed Bantam with standard so they are a little bigger. But I plan on getting more standard size girls in spring. I don’t want the big boys going after the little girls!
I never had a problem w/ Odin trying to go after Ash (that I'm aware of), but that might have been different if there was more female bantams, and less standards.

Kinda bummed today.

Our old cat is officially blind and failing. :hmm
Tomorrow will be her last day.
Seventeen is a pretty long life I guess.
:hugs It's always hard when that time comes around. Just know she was loved & you're doing the right thing. You've done everything you can.

Oh my.
I don’t know whether to be glad or feel sorry for the poor jerk.

Well.

If he ever figures out why nobody on the playground wanted to play with him, maybe he’ll come back and play nicely.
He won't have that realization. He'll tell everyone who will listen what a bunch of jerks are here and how he just wanted to have serious discussions and people attacked him. Some people exist only to make other people's lives difficult. The site is better off w/o him. It's probably horrible to say, but part of the 'family site' aspect is being respectful of other people and no actively trying to start arguments. It's like those memes where someone says something completely ignorant & then says fight me... for example: https://twitter.com/ZonePhysics/status/1079768142069534720

I still lurk on a lot of threads and decide if I want to comment or just leave it alone. Many times OP get's the advice they need and I just let it go. Maybe I should endorse said advice.
Sometimes it's good to do a x2 on a good post that way the op knows it's a good suggestion. I had to deal w/ mites and got several responses with a couple similar attack plans, but also had a few conflicting bits, like whether or not DE was safe to use, which left me a bit confused. Of course it's up to the OP to made the decision in the end, but it's nice to have a couple people w/ more experience agree on a idea.

I’m trying to decide if I hurt myself wrangling Thing 1, or if I have something more serious going on. About an hour and a half ago, after feeding Thing 1 on my lap and fighting to keep him from grabbing EVERYTHING off my desk, I started having pain on the upper right side of my abdomen. It hurts worse when I move or breathe deep. It shoots up into a rib when I do those things but it fades to a 2-3 when I lay still. I don’t have a fever, no rebound tenderness, good appetite, no nausea.

I think it has to be musculoskeletal, not intestinal. I’m in a wait, rest and see pattern for now.
Is it possible it's the round ligaments stretching? I can't remember what it felt like & where it hurt, but I remember then being a thing and hurting.

I am feeling a good deal better today than I was last night. Still trying not to pick up or hold Thing 1 too much (which he doesn't like).

Glad you are feeling better
He needs to get used to it now anyway. When thing 2 arrives he will be used to it by then

Yellow house farm is in Connecticut and has rose comb white dorkings. They will do well in both cold and heat

I watched "Chicken People" a while ago. It was good, but it was pretty clear that the producers regarded the whole production as an oddity to poke fun at rather than a serious hobby-slash-lifestyle. They go out of their way to make the parties involved seem as eccentric as possible. Also, I wish they'd stop already with the chicken puns. :barnie We hear those constantly from the city people, we don't need to hear them from a documentary too!

I really liked the young man's bantam Leghorns that they showed in part of it. The cock especially—what a beautiful bird.

Seems like any of these animal people documentaries make fun of us... The dog show one on PBS was the same.
I grew up showing dogs and there was lots of politics and goofiness, but nothing like they showed
