This is one of the few places I can actually use that word, but still go with rooster because a part of me still feels like i'll get in trouble...am I alone in that ?![]()

You're welcome. You do realize.... that was mostly for you, heeheee!![]()
I knew a good churchy guy who never cursed but he bred dogs.... I think he enjoyed shocking people talking about his b*tches.
I try to avoid talking about my chickens to non-chicken people.I think that's why it's so funny. Pregnant Rae at church with the MD by her side saying cock.

It is good to catchup!Hi guys,
I finally got home (long day at work), took care of the dogs and chickens, and am trying to catch up.
Thanks for all the hugs and sympathy...I was afraid to come home today because I was terrified of finding any more dead chickens! Last night DH nailed up all the hardware cloth that was stapled, but reading what you all wrote scared me (everyone said use screws, and washers). DH says that nails should be strong enough, but do you think that is true?
I'm wondering what got them. It was during the day (late afternoon most likely, both girls). My first one's neck was bitten and skin stripped off, and they opened up her crop and ate some of the guts including liver (ugh).
Willow (yesterday) had the skin on her neck stripped, and her trachea was snapped in half. Both girls had feathers everywhere. You think hawk, or raccoon?
Suzi is hanging in there. She is eating some soft food that I am hand feeding her, and is drinking. I am wondering how the heck she got half her beak ripped off and was still inside the secure run. My cockerel Negan had some blood on his comb, I wonder if it's possible that it was a very rough mating??
The weird thing is that yesterday, one of my Cemani girls in the not-secure coop also had an upper beak injury. I was wondering if they were fighting through the divider (hardware cloth) between runs...?
Henny, I am so sorry about your kitty.![]()

But I am glad for both of you that she went peacefully.
Ron, happy birthday! Don't listen to Chickassan, she's just jealous of your age and wisdom.
@sourland, Welcome to the Squatch! I have been dying for another NJ person on here. Where you from? Want a couple cockerels? (Silkie/Cemani or Serama crosses). I'll deliver, lol. I'm in Southern Ocean County with the pineys (Piney Power!) of which I refuse to cop to being one of!
(Edited as always for godawful crappy typing)
You must have heard that sigh of relief I let out all the way in Jersey.![]()

Thanks!Happy Birthday Ronott. Hope you had a great day!
A terminology Nazi!I COMPLETELY understand that impulse. I avoided it for a while, but one of my Cornish FB groups recently told members that any posts using the incorrect terminology will be deleted. So I’ve resolved to use the correct terms. Though I’ll temper what I say when counseling newbies on BYC. I’m sure you guys don’t mind sniggering at me.![]()

Yeah, right, that's the only reason you're n here, lol. You don't even HAVE chickens (all those pics...somebody else's random chicken pics).
