Have a crazy story!
I played winter roulette and was hoping for very little snow. I was not prepared for more then "very little". I shoveled once and thought I was going to die. My driveway is a good 200'. Plan was a snow thrower but that didn't happen.
So....big storm hits. Lots of snow. I'm not going anywhere. I couldn't find my driveway. See a FB post that people will plow for $10 if you set up a day ahead. (More for longer driveways) I ask about 200' ($35) and honestly if they would have said $50 I would have said yes.
I tell them no hurry. By Monday before 1 is fine. Come to think of it I guess I should have specified pm.
I'm laying in bed and I swear I hear a plow. Low and behold in the dark the poor guy is trying to plow my unmarked, solid drift of a driveway!
I felt so bad he's plowing blind at 12:45. I risk it and text the number "coffee?"
I get a message back! Poor person is just dispatch but did ask the driver. Said they were good on coffee and apologized because he was having a hard time (no markers) and they were late.
I explain I work odd hours and said it's my fault the driveway isn't marked. Don't worry about being fancy, I just need to get my car out. Then I offer eggs.
I got a new egg customer at 12:55 am.Lots of exclamation points about getting eggs. They will take some right away if I have them.
So I sent the driver away with a free dozen. And I forgot to mention not a single egg is white.![]()

There was that article recently about beta glucan in oat meal being an anti nutrient and bad for chickens. Also, warming foods for chickens is not a thing. My treat for chickens is Kale. I buy a big bag each week for them.It just now hit 33 degrees here, not a fan at all.
Don't know how you northern people do this crap, it is torture.
My fat "cold tolerant" birds are spoiled too, iv'e seen some shivering lol.
Iv'e already been out again to unfreeze water and divvy out oatmeal.
I put craisins and mealworms in it, i'm officially queen now.![]()
chickens broke into the garden 2017, wiped out the 12 kale.. those hens eggs had green whites for several daysThere was that article recently about beta glucan in oat meal being an anti nutrient and bad for chickens. Go very easy on oats.
eggs customers thought they were rotten eggs
I have not seen that happen with kale here. I wonder if they did not get into something else too? I found an article that said egg whites go green when there is a lot of riboflavin in the diet. It is B-2! which is very good for you and the chickenschickens broke into the garden 2017, wiped out the 12 kale.. those hens eggs had green whites for several dayseggs customers thought they were rotten eggs

It is best for them to have chicken feed in their crop at night. That is the best thing for them at all times. Barley has no more benefit than any grain, except for cutting out some nutrition that they get from chicken feed. There is not such thing as a warming grain or a cooling grain. It is a pretty rare treat and they aren't super warm when they go out.
Warmer than outdoors obviously but a person would classify them as almost cold.
Iv'e read the articles,as long as I don't make it a regular thing it should be ok.
Barley would be my choice personally for a cold weather treat for them but they haven't developed a taste for it yet.
That might change, they didn't like oatmeal either.![]()

Greens are important though and most will not cut their nutrition(not an anti food). Meal worms too since they have some different types of protein in them. The rule is not to give them a treat that they cannot eat in more than about 15 minutes(This is for the general audience. You already know this).
All things except chicken feed is a treat
