I'm excited. Pat needs some bigger girls! I know they won't be ready for him right away but he's not wanting to wait. LOL
I'm hoping broody queen wants to raise them. :fl

Question: My birds are not vaccinated. Should I make sure the chicks aren't?
If you aren't going to vaccinate your older birds, I wouldn't vaccinate your younger ones.

Anyone with rodent issues!!

Balsam Fir Oil

Mr Wizard recommends it as a natural deterrent for rodents. It smells like pine x 1000 so they can't smell predators hence they don't feel safe. If you put it around coop perimeter where it won't wash away easily it should drive them out and keep them out for quite a while.

the peppermint tea bags in a hole didn't work on chipmunks like I read

Mareks is the vaccine that you can get for chicks from the feed store or hatcheries.

On your own, there is one for coccidiosis and others:

Conventional poultry are usually vaccinated against a variety of diseases including Marek's disease, Newcastle disease, infectious bronchitis, Infectious laryngotracheitis, fowl pox, and fowl cholera. Since these diseases can also infect organic poultry, a routine vaccination program is recommended. It is important to note, however, that vaccination is not a substitute for effective biosecurity and sanitation practices.

Well guys, I'll be gone most of the day tomorrow. DH has a colonoscopy tomorrow and I'm his driver. He had to do a whole bunch of nasty prep work today. Fortunately, except for being hungry, he says it is better than the last time he had to have one.

I felt like shredded taters today. Bad heart burn, morning sickness (which I still seem to get if I don't eat often enough or get sick), and just generally tired and rundown. I got a nap, which helped a good bit.

In other good news, I'm more than half way there at this point and Thing 2 is technically in the survivable zone if anything happens. So, yay for that!
