That's part of the problem.. I thought when I retired I would have time to go through my stuff and organize, sort donate.... turns out it's not time but ambition. .. I just don't care enough LOL
I drug home a ton of stuff when they built us a smaller building at work. 8 shelving units I still haven't cleared a space for, 15 half empty big boxes of different weird size nails and screws.. of course wrong size for most of my projects. Electrical boxes and fittings. a pickup truck load of used t12 troffer light fixtures that I said I was going to put up in the basement and make a grow rack with., boxes of ballasts... boxes of miscellaneous parts that are good but what am I going to use for. .. well lots more filling a garage and small shed. ..
Then when I retired I took home my hard hats, a locker full of extra foul weather gear and clothes... and 35yrs of notes ( which I used 2x to help a buddy out)
I try to go through and ... well I might need it ya know .. and after working at a school and seeing how much they toss ( and ended up at my house) it's hard to donate to a school...
There is a habitat for humanity and a mission that I would donate to... just have to get motivated to go through it... of course I save boxes to put stuff in and that's part of the clutter.
Maybe make a goal to go through a bit each day?

that was the news years resolution... to fill a feed bag or box a week and get rid of it... I did fill 2 feed bags of useless stuff and tossed the first week... then the not so blind guy called needing help... then the hawk attacked and I have been on hawk patrol ever since ( real tired to staying outside when it's light out and below freezing)... need to get back to it.. should just set a goal of 15 min and do it while I am watching the weather news when it's not light out.

You did some work! That is a good thing.

I am now inspired to go clean up the garage a bit

I keep a box for the daycare, when I fill it up I drop it off. I totally get it being overwhelming.. I'm not even going to show people my bedroom, it's embarrassing. I've let one person see it and that's b/c her bedroom was full of tools from their home renovation so I felt better about my hoarding of random carp. You'll get through it, slowly but surely. Habitat for Humanity sounds like a good place for a lot of it. My stuff is all random junk or craft stuff. I'm not even going to discuss all the dresses I have stored. or the fact that I have a crib & changing table in my closet when my youngest child is 13.

I see what you did there. :lau

I agree, a little each day works.

OMG you guys are all making me feel so much better! It’s good to know I’m not alone! :D

I used to watch Horders on A&E. Two reasons, it made me feel better that I wasn’t hoarding garbage and/or dead things. And it made me clean up!

garbage is subjective
1000 egg cartons are useful.... well I don't need that many, not sure how many I have but I know it's over 500. but with 50+ hens  people bring them back nasty sometimes.
newspaper for the garden and sleeves for picking up after the dog .. I did stop the paper because I wasn't reading it, same with magazines I saved to read...:smack someday

only dead things are in the freezer( remember the eel and hedgehog :gigwell they are gone now) or mounted/tan hides
