There are WAY too many eggs for those two girls to keep warm, probably close to 30 of them. Most of them on the outside are probably not viable. The ones in the middle are likely to be the only ones that developed. I'll go candle them later tonight to see how many to toss.

I read they rotate them to the center... which can mess them all up
I may have been wrong about how many eggs have a chance. I just went back out to peek at them and I couldn't see a single egg. The hens had them all tucked out of sight. I only saw one baby while I was out there too. Poor thing was having a hard time squeezing under the mamas with all those eggs.

You are going to have a lot of babies running around!

If I have more than 8, I think I'm going to try selling some of them. However, since my rooster is split for chocolate, I'll be checking for any chocolate tinge in all the chicks feathers. Any Chocolate splash/mauve chick is going to be a female.

Hey friends. Checking in.
Not bothering to catch up right now.

My sweet old guy Jonah wasn’t himself this weekend.

Vet visit...
Bloodwork...
X-rays...
F-ing cancer.

She said this will go fast.
Steroids to give him a boost seem to be helping.

Love this dog.

Please keep him in your thoughts.
:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs Jonah is in our prayers :hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs

O. M. G.

The grossest thing EVER just happened to me a little while ago. I mean, horrible!!!!

I went out to let my big girls roam for a minute when I got home from work, as it is above freezing this afternoon, and the winds calmed down. They came out of their run. I scooped up my Brahma girl, Deila (named after Smuv) hugged her, and kissed the top of her head. All of a sudden I got a whiff of CECAL POOP. It was on her head....and I kissed it....! :sick (somebody must have been perching on the branch in their run directly above her.)

Dudes, it was so gross. I mean I had liquid cecal poo on my lips. I ran inside and scrubbed my lips with soap and water, and then used this aromatherapy moisturizing, exfoliating sugar scrub on them. I have not licked my lips once in the past half hour.

Ew. EWEWEW.

My hubby: "I am never kissing you again. You are going to get some kind of disease from those chickens."

It's so nasty, but it's also kinda hilarious. :lau Just call me Cindi Sh*tlips, lol!

PS: Where is @Chickassan, she would get a major kick out of this!

Oh no, Stace!!! I just saw this. That sucks..... I am so sorry. :hit :hit :hit

He looks like the sweetest baby. I know you are heartbroken, OMG. It sucks so bad when they get cancer. That is the downside to having dogs, and Goldens in particular. Vets call them "cancer factories," they are always getting lymphoma. I lost three of my dogs to cancer, it just sucks.

I'm so sorry, friend. :hugs Love you.

that is a good plan!

We had a broody hatch out some RIR over barred rock when I was growing up. There were 12-15 of them! It was very cute to see them running around the orchard

In reply to inquiries,
He’s going to be 12 in April.
X-rays show a large illdefined mass pushing outward from under his liver and spleen with gi stasis.
Given the size , his age and how much he’s loved, it seemed pointless to bother with a biopsy to confirm what type.
I’m not going to put him through any heroics to satisfy my own selfishness,
Although a dex injection did make him feel better in a lot of ways with so far, no yucky side effects.
He ate good yesterday, got two good poops out, and decided to sleep in our bed last night which he hasn’t been doing for a couple of months.
I thought he didn’t like the new mattress. Maybe not.
He was back in his old spot last night using my legs as his pillow.
A vet I worked for years ago used to say there were only two things that killed Goldens. Cancer and cars.
And cars only because they are such nice dogs they can’t resist an open gate and the opportunity it gives them to run across a road to say hi to a neighbor or exercise their sniffer.

:hugs I understand and totally respect not putting him through a bunch of tests that won't fix him. :hugs:hugs:hugs

You and Jonah have been in my thoughts all day hon. Much love, understanding and prayers for you both. :hugs
