Well hey ya'll, sorry iv'e been awol but iv'e been having a wonky spell.
I have been basically hospice caring for a chicken and even though that sort of thing should not bother me when it comes to animals it really does.
So anyway it is over, she passed this afternoon so I can ugly cry it out and get back to "normal".
Nunny, huge newfound respect for you and your crippled chicken experiences iv'e been doing it for weeks it sucks dirty socks.
If anyone is curious I lost Sallie, she just got worse and worse mobility wise.
I don't know if it was a lack of resistance or just a super nasty strain of bacteria but crap it was awful.
Missed you guys!

Squatchers I need your advice. Just after 5 pm my neighbor’s dogs broke into my yard and attacked my flock. My cockerel is missing. One hen is injured, but not badly. She has a small comb tear, lots of missing feathers , and some abrasions where the feathers were ripped out. No puncture wounds that I can find.

Question: after cleaning her wounds should I put her back with the flock tonight, or keep her inside? And is there anything else I should do for her?

I'd keep her inside tonight just to keep an eye on her.
I hope you find your boy too.

I'm so sorry. I really know how hard it is. You get even more attached caring for them then the worst happens.
I do recommend including blood tests. Things that look alike at necropsy can give the wrong diagnosis.

If you don't see punctures and the other birds can't see wounds as long as she seems ok I think you could put her with the flock. If she's shockey I'd keep her in. Keep her strees level in mind. I've had birds that seemed happy to get away, others that would have pecked my eyes out to get back with the flock.
If you want to keep her wounds covered I recommend stockinette.

Ok few updates from my wonk weeks.
Rene went broody for three days and stopped laying.
She is not a nice broody, worse than Lulu she screams, bites and shuffles at you.
I may let her brood just because she's so cute.
Big news is Hobo is putting out! After close to two years she's finally putting the goods on the table.
Negan is a very, very, happy boy.
They roost side by side mostly every night now, sometimes he sleeps with Susan and Marlene maybe once a week.
So I will be able to hatch a little Hobo this year...about time!

As others have said if not shocky then back with the flock. Otherwise inside and offer fluids.

I am also hoping your boy comes home in good shape.

Thanks everyone. After about 45 minutes or so she started acting more like herself. Ate some food, pooped, and started inspecting the bathroom for roosting spots. Found her settling in on top of the toilet. So since it seems like she is over the shock, I will put her back with the flock. The weather is very mild tonight so that helps.

That isn't very bad, i'd do it once a day the biggest thing is trying to keep it clean as possible.
Did the dog get secured?
