Yeah, angelfish were about my limit with cichlids.
What kind of filters do you prefer? I used to buy the Hagen Aquaclears and they were good. I never cared for the Hagen family though, at least the ones I met.

I forget what brand we used to use. I do know I had one rated for 100 gallons on my 55 just to keep it clean.

Now I use a home made filter.

Mine is similar to this.

Next time I will go with this.

I do have lava rock in mine too for the biofilter component.

Now I did have issues with the water going green on me until I added plants from the pond. I have corkscrew rush and a dwarf umbrella palm in there. There is no lid on mine and I am using fluorescent undercabinet lighting above it.
So far it is working great.

Edited to add....

I USED TO have a lot of tanks. I keep just the one small 10 gallon now.

I had a homemade under gravel filter. I would do water changes every 1-2 weeks with a siphon vaccum to remove debris from the gravel.

Omg, I thought those chickens were going to stay out all night!
I guess they know green grass is a finite resource right now.
Finished fixing the fence by myself which really blew goat butt, it was the only way it was going to get done.
When you and the roll of wire are pretty much the same size the struggle is very much real.

Oh lord Marlene, Hobo and Renee scare me to death molting.
They get thin, combs shrivel up to nothing and no matter how much mackrel I stuff them with it dosent do much.
Poor little Crooky as if she didn't have enough to deal with.

Yeah lots of stragglers this year. :(
Poor Crooky spent a lot of time this summer looking like a porcupine. Not sure why either.
No mites or lice but her feathers looked all broken. Seriously, all over her body too.
I expect my elderly bantams to struggle a bit with the molt. Bitty looks ok.....just looks "thin" without the extreme feathers to puff her up.

The mulch path was slick as all get out. We are already climbing a bit in temp so :fl For the melt and dry.

Jeebus! Night?
Hat, gloves, scarf, mittens, extra socks, blanket, and hot cocoa!
Keep them fingers safe.

You can never go wrong hoarding buttons.:)
I have jars and other containers full of buttons. I am a collecting nut.

All you that have had clown loaches and loved them I can not relate at all.
I had two, saw them for maybe a week, I figured they died and other fish ate them.
Fast forward six months im doing a complete tear down and clean and see two large, pale "things" living inside an ornament.
I found my loaches, alive, fat, and super white.
I was on the fence about being happy to see them.:D
These guys have always been my fish weakness, something about the face sucking just floats my boat.

Yeah, poor Crooky is a genetic hot mess.
She is sprouting lots of feathers though.
This morning she sure had her beak in the dish with fish. Sunday I will give more fish.

I had an odd find this morning. :hmm
As I was tending birds I spotted 1/4 of a hamburger bun on the path between my big coop and hubs shed.
All I can think is someone was feeding squirrels and one dropped it in my yard.

However if I catch someone tossing carp into my yard all bets are off!

Love that glitter! Sparkle on my shiny friend!!:highfive:

I can sympathise with you on hot messes you know my bunch is pretty much the golden corral of weirdos.
It just stinks that there isn't too much you can do besides fish em up lol!
Mystery hamburger bun would have me scratching my head too.
Maybe a bird dropped it or something but most wild critters don't leave food especially in cold weather id keep an eye out for sure.
Im tickled over the belt, the leggings however are the stuff of nightmares.:lau

Something a bit off about that gnome.....

The odd food item in the yard has me on the look out. In years past there have been poisonings......mostly of dogs but I trust no one.

That gnome is a sweetheart compared to the pants gnomes.
I hope they're at least warm, has to be a trade off for creepiness somewhere.
Definitely keep a close eye if jerks have poisioned things before.
I swear some people are just pure sh*t and nothing but.
