Official Squatch Watchers

My chicknic table has a removable top, in case of rain!

Ohhh,a lanyard those were all the rage in Paris last fall as the must have statement necklace.
They say "hang it around you neck so you won't lose it!"
Very bold choice destined to become a classic!
The elastic and safety pin combo is more understated, it gently whispers "where is my key?" while dangling gracefully in full view.:)
Nice accessory! I have considered a lanyard around my neck like a "Latchkey kid". I have a lot of locked doors here too!

And in the latest news from the coop Lulu has broken broody and laying has resumed with a sense of humor.;)

Hope everyone has a great day!

Had a fantastic visit with my brother and his family yesterday. They were planning a trip to the drive up dairy stand near my house and offered to stop by to bring us a few things we needed. Kids had a great time visiting and playing with all of our animals. 🥰

Also, Hansel crowed! It was predictably terrible. I had mortally offended his dignity by picking him up and holding him for a while so the kids could see him better. After I put him down he felt the need to reaffirm his manliness by attempting to crow:gig 8 weeks old. What a pistol.

Awesome that you got to not only visit with your brother and the kids BUT you wounded a tiny cockerels dignity enough to get a crow!!

You will just die over my classic re-purposed orang and blue convention neck-wear. Now, if I could only find it in here somewhere . . .

:frow Good afternoon Rae, have a great day. Sounds like you've gotten your rhythm down.

I have all featherman equipment for processing, it's overkill unless you're doing a lot of birds. Ralphie swears by his Yardbird plucker. ~$400... I do swear by the Featherman kill cones and stand, but it's pricey ~$650 and you would probably need two sizes of cone. What would probably be better is getting a couple of cones of each size that you need and make a stand with a bucket underneath. Another option is to rent a featherman setup from someone near you. Truth is that if you were planning on something like yardbird, it would be cheaper to buy than rent.
The Yardbird or Stromburgs’ base model is about what I’m looking at. I’m wondering which one would be better.

I got my original stainless kill cone from Cornerstone Farm Ventures but apparently they are going out of business.

Do you think it is worth buying a scalder or should I just keep using the turkey fryer and turning the gas on and off to keep it at the proper temp?

Good morning everyone. :frow

I wish everyone a great day.

Someone on the news said we will be rainy today. Seems like a good day to work on the duck pool! :lau

For real...the forecast is for 1/4" of rain....which is a decent amount for here.

I am still shooting for having the ducks in their house by Monday evening.

I love my scalder, but it's pricey... I think for 20 or so birds, the turkey fryer is the way to go. I've bought a lot of my stuff from Cornerstone, surprised to hear they are going out of business.

:frow Good morning Henny, have a great day and stay dry.

Morning all

Am I the only one that dislikes dunking birds in filthy scalding water...or do I have filthy birds :barnie

I use water from a turned up house water heater. I can do 2 before the temperature drops too low. I dump it out and replace. But I only do 2 to 6 birds ...by the house.

I have a yardbird

I think it is the nature of the beast. They dirt bathe so all that floats off while being dunked.....yeah I think it is yucky too.

:frow Good morning Mo, have a great day. My water doesn't seem to get too bad, but they're only in it for a minute or two. With mine, I put four birds in the rotating dunker and a minute or two later they're in the plucker. I do hose them down while in the plucker and they come out clean. Now when I do turkeys the water tends to get nasty fast.
