I am feeding the Pruina flock raiser. I give them grass and dirt after the first couple of days. All seem to be running properly. I suspect that the lack of vitamins in the food is helped by fresh grass. I also give an egg mashed up, or tuna, as treats. I have considered getting the yeast, but never used it when I had ducks before. I never fed them anything special back then, never heard of it. Just let them out on the lawn ASAP! Here, I am bringing the lawn to them.

Purina flock raiser does have more niacin than chick only feed so I think that helps.
My tiny chicks are a week old today. 🎉
On my to do list is setting up a small outdoor space for them to have some ground time during the heat of the day. Yes they will have sun/shade option as well as dirt/grass option. One BSL is noticeably smaller. I am calling her Tina. I think they could benefit from some ground time and real sunshine.

Maybe it wouldn't be for winter use.
Probably not going to use it when it is freezing, but water has collected in it and frozen last winter without any damage that I could see. It was not full or being used by ducks. Deer drink from it now, mostly. I like the deer to have water, and the Javalina can't reach the water in it. To make the tub accessable to ducks, I will have to fence out the Javalina, and other wild creatures. More electric fence is in my future! The B&B tourists love to see the deer. My garden does not! :barnie

Good morning everyone.

78 and intermittent rain throughout the day.

Apparently, the escapee keet (the one that jumped out of the box when I tried to sell it) decided that last night was the perfect night to sleep out under the stars. It was still inside the PVC run, but it decided to nestle down in the grass outside the Rubbermaid night box. It was perfectly fine this morning.
Good morning Rae :frow have a lovely day

Good morning everyone. :frow

I am awake....really I am.....

Birds are all tended and happy. Peas for a duck treat served in warm water to speed thawing. Corn cobs with quite a bit still attached for chickens along with the usual handful of scratch.

I am getting a consistent 2 eggs a day from the quackers. i am sure more will start laying soon.

@Parront I am wondering if you are supplementing niacin for the ducklings? I feed Purina flock raiser with a Tablespoon of nutritional yeast per cup added along with peas and romaine lettuce.

Well I need to get busy in the yard. It has s cool now but that won't last today.
Good morning Henny :frowhave a lovely day

I don't think there is a law about dating the eggs themselves. There are certain rules for selling if you want to sell at a farmers market or to stores. I think there is a special license you have to have.
I sell word of mouth.

:idunnoHow can you call such a tiny little thing a cannon? But check out the fresh water,it only takes 5 minutes to turn it murky.

Here is the tub. I just need a way to plug the drain, something like a big rubber plug. No plumbing, just drain it down into the creek bed you can see behind it.
I thought to pipe it away from the tub. Didn't think about how to pull the plug. Very true you probably don't want to stick your arm in it. A chain could be dangerous to diving duckies. I'd wonder about a ball valve in winter. Maybe it wouldn't be for winter use.

Good Morning! Have a great day!:D Today is nice, but we are getting more heat starting tomorrow, according to the weather forecast. The rain we had gave our well some water, YEAH! That makes for a good day, free water for lawn, garden, & chicks! A little sprinkler with cool well water is the best on a hot day.

Yes, Henny, I meant Parront.

This is not the least hassle idea, in both work and cost, but might be a decent solution, especially if you have spare stuff around to make it work.

As far as the duck tub drain... Why not set it up with some outflow piping and put a valve on that? It eliminates the hand in dirty water and duck in chain issues, and you can run it to wherever you want the water to go. If you can taper the pipes down incrementally, you can set it up to attach a hose and use the water for things, provided duck poop is a good fertilizer, or run it further away from the tub to reduce mud. In the winter, keep the valve open so there's no ice issue. You would do everything else the same, as far as a screen for the drain to keep rocks and stuff out. A stick will be a necessity as well, the drain will get blocked so you'll need something to move the debris away.
I am just trying to avoid extra expense, the tub doesn't have any drain right now, just a big

hole where the drain pipe was attached. If I put it up on blocks I could reach the drain from the outside and pull the plug without putting my hands in ducky water. Running it to water a garden would mean I would have to put it near the garden. Close to where it is is a creek that would be fine to have some duck water. Maybe I can get some inexpensive PVC to fit this hole, then I could use a valve. Then I have to buy more stuff. I have time to look around the RE-store and see what I can fix up.

Yeah, I saw I would have to get an inspection if I want to sell at a farmers market, but there are also rules/laws(?) for selling off your property too. I also took a screenshot of what is causing my confusion. It appears to contradict itself. I’ll attach the link: https://agri.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/oda/divisions/food-safety/resources/small-egg-production

Maybe it just me then. When I use the reply or quote button my keyboard is all weird. When I delete something the whole keyboard disappears and the screen jumps. But with just a post to the tread it’s fine. 🤷🏻‍♀️
I have similar issues with this site all the time. I don’t know if it’s just such a huge site or what.
