I am working on my duck house conversion to chicken coop as time allows.

It is amazing that the quackers have been gone several weeks yet the run remains soggy in areas.

Busted out the tiny tiller to turn the wet areas....every day at least once to help it dry.

A question if anyone can help that would be great....

It's stinky since it's wet. That tells me I may need an additive. Has anyone used stall dry or a lime product in poultry yards? Any recommendations?

You need carbon. I think nunny used horse pellets. I generally use wood shavings.

I had oodles of shavings in there. :(

I guess it mostly needs to dry out after those mucky duckies.

Maybe tilling a fresh bale of fine shavings into it will help. I had 8" of leaves in there this fall and used large flake pine shavings as well. The quackers added tons of water and packed it all down. It's a lot of work getting the wet bottom layer raked out, loosening deep with a garden fork then tilling. I will keep at it.

I have used barn lime, works for drying, but it seemed like it stopped the composting

I did more raking of the bedding both soggy and dry into a pile and tilled more ground.

It's not SUPER stinky but definitely has an odor. Luckily it broke up pretty easily. I got it turned down to about a foot deep. I think I will keep tilling it each day and delay the move of the chickens a couple weeks so I can make sure it's not still soggy.

We are getting a beautiful rain right now. Not a giant gully washer but far more than a light mist.

Hi everybody :frow

Mo, as long as it was still walking, lol. I hate finding ticks on me!

Rae, as my kiddo got older he would lay on the couch with his either on my lap or by it so I could scratch his head. I think it was soothing for him.

Hopefully it'll dry soon. I don't have any recommendations for that. Sorry Henny.

Hi Grammy and Bob! (Don't want to leave you out, lol)
