For good chuckle (not my story):
"Pomegranate Turkey"
Two years ago my sister asked me how I made my turkey so moist, so I gave her my secret recipe: Inject the turkey with a pomegranate salad dressing, cover it with a cheesecloth and baste it with a white wine-butter reduction every half hour." My mother called me on Thanksgiving to ask me what I had told my sister, because there is no way she got the instructions right. It turned out my PHd-smart sister injected the turkey with pomegranate concentrate which made the turkey meat pink. If that wasn't funny enough, my mother asked me why I told her to cover the turkey with cheese and saturate it with wine. I swear my sister can find new medicines, but she can't cook! -Marie, Sunrise, FL

Hey guys!

Is there anything I missed in the 2 months I was gone? This thread seems pretty quiet. I know @Chickassan passed and someone’s cancer came back. Im not sure what else.

Good news, I sold my first piggy today! I sold the little gilt from my one litter from 2/28. I’m hoping to buy a gilt out of that girl to be a new breeder for me down the line.

Now I just need to find a home for 3 of my 4 boarlets. I want one boarlet to hopefully breed my sow that didn’t farrow this year. I want a gilt to breed back to my big boar since my two girls are 5 or 6 now.

Oh and the wild bacon story.

Three weeks ago, I was working in the early afternoon and DH comes in to tell be we need to start selling our boarlets because they got out again. They hadn’t gotten out in about 2-3 months since I fixed the last hole in their pen. I go outside and see a small boar harassing my big boar through the fence of his pen. My boar was a bit agitated but looking at him like “really dude?” At this point I’m looking at the small boar and thinking “Man he’s ugly. He looks like a potbelly.” I try luring the small boar back to the boarlets’ pen with a bucket of feed and he isn’t paying any attention to the bucket, which is weird. My pigs all know what a 1-2 gallon white bucket in a person’s hand means. He’s really skittish and doesn’t like being approached at all. I start walking down to my parents house to get some stuff to catch him and see where the rest of the boarlets are. I get to the pen and I see 4 boarlets, all looking as I expect an AGH to look and still contained. This pig wasn’t ours. We tried for almost an hour to contain him. We finally got him trapped at the end of our pig port with two hog panels, but the ground was so uneven and we couldn’t get a solid pen set up around him that we decided we had to do him in. We can’t let an intact boar loose to roam and we couldn’t contain him well enough to try to find him a home or butcher him ourselves, so we had do the first two of the S’s. Too many people know to do the third.

The kids didn’t see the shot but they knew what happened. They were playing “shoot the pig”, taking turns being the shooter and the pig, for a week. 🤦‍♀️

We think he was an escapee or someone knew we had pigs and dropped him off like people do with cats. I don’t think he was completely wild because he didn’t run at the sight of us, but he wasn’t tame either.

Glad you got rid of the pita wild boar.
Shame you couldn't have taken some of the meat
