It would have provided food for bowl licker and owl might have come back the next night..

Although I think we have romantic ideas about animals.
That they don't waste resources , but foxes, coyotes, weasels sometimes kill everything that moves. Stashing but a lot rots before it's eaten. Some just eat the best and leave the rest.
That they kill quickly. But in reality some play with their food .

Yes, good or bad, always something hew to learn.
