Pipping but not zipping

Okay about the other duck. It has definitely changed since I candled on day 22. But I'm not feeling or seeing movement and haven't heard anything. It is quite heavy and definitely had been growing. Now on day 26 it looks completely dark minus the air sac at the top which is kinda small. I know it is normal for it to be dark at this stage but worried about not feeling any movement and no signs of pips. Wonder what might have happened since day 22 or if I'm just being paranoid. Should I be able to see anything, if so what, during candeling at this stage?

Just heard our other one cheep for the first time!

Coming up on 24 hours with no progress. Thinking about chipping off a piece of the shell where it has pipped before bed. What should I be looking for when I do this and what should I be most concerned about during this process.

If you want to chip a small piece off to make sure there is an opening, that’s fine, just please don’t do any more than that. 24 hours is not panic time yet.
The concern is that the yolk is still not absorbed and the more membrane you expose, the more it will dry and stick to the duckling. But I do know how badly you want to know it’s still alive and doing ok, so do what you need to do to put your mind at ease.

If you recommend I wait, I will. How long can they go upside down like that without an opening to oxygen? That's my main concern because he is obviously alive so I don't want to risk his chances but I don't want him to die because of uoside down pipping when he is so close.

Yes but I have one that was an early developer. It’s been rocking for 3 days now and was totally dark when candled at day 23, so I went into early lockdown day 24 when I candled and saw it pushing at the membrane. Why do ducks have to take sooooo long?!
