Please Help! My female Black Swedish duck is acting weird!

You may have to watch her and give the calcium when you see that she has laid a soft shelled egg. When his happens you want to make sure you get her calcium ASAP.

Alright! I bought some oyster shells and they arrived today, should I put some of it in with her food? Will it help her get any eggs out? She hasn't layed in a bit, which is concerning considering she lays so much. Will the oyster shells harm her in anyway or make it harder to get the egg out? Sorry, im new to the whole oyster shell thing, haha.

Nope just leave the oyster shells in a separate bowl. Here is my thread where everyone gave great advice on my egg issue, I think this kind what your going through and would be beneficial to expand inn your knowledge. It gets off subject towards the end....

Yes I did answer your post. Maybe I didn’t tag you correctly. She was much better the next morning and so far no issues. I really wish I knew what that was all about but I guess I’ll never know and hopefully it was once and done. Scary.

Oh, okay. Yea, I didn't get your reply. I'm really happy to hear she's better now! It's good that she isn't having issues anymore. Hopefully it was once and done. I'll try to calcium supplement on April, but I also got oyster shells too.

Oh, okay. Thank you. If I give her this calcium suppelment, will she permentaly keep on ne

Aw. I'm so sorry to hear your still having troubles. I posted a new thread with important updates, so hopefully that'll give you some more information. If I give her this stuff, will it make her eggs weird? She is usually a really good layer and lays beautiful perfect eggs. Will this affect her laying? Will I have to keep on giving it to her? Was your duck always a bit weird with laying eggs? Sorry for all of the questions.

No it shouldn’t make her eggs weird. Hopefully this is just a fluke and won’t have any issues after this one. I think it’s common for this to happen from time to time. The purpose of that good dose of calcium is to help her get some strength to push out that stuck egg. I started giving my girl calcium citrate tablets because she was and still is, having thin shelled eggs. I gave her the liquid calcium when she had a stuck egg (inside of an egg) hoping it would get into her system quicker and be better absorbed.
I’m am new to Ducks, we got our first little flock last year so I’m only telling you what I have personally gone through with my girls and what has worked for me. There are a lot more experienced Mama Ducks out there and hopefully they will chime in if I’m not giving proper information. Did you feel her to see if there’s a lump?

I haven't felt her yet, but I will be sure to do that first thing in the morning. I just went out there to put some oyster shells in a little bowl for her, those can help, right? I hope they can give her calcium to push out the eggs, and then if that doesn't work I'll use the liquid calcium.

I just posted on your other thread. LOL!!!! The liquid is gonna be a larger more direct dose to help push out her egg if indeed that’s her problem. The Oyster Shell is an ongoing maintance that they need to help keep her eggs strong. They will only eat what they need is what I’ve been told.

LOL! So if I use the oyster shell once will I keep on needing to give it to her in order for her eggs to be good..?

Yes oyster shell is for all the time just put in a bowl they will eat as needed. The liquid calcium is for that boost when they are having difficulty passing and egg or if they lay thin shelled eggs continually etc. Gets them back on track.
