Please help!!!

What did the vet say???
It seems that she did perform an xray and saw the pin stuck in the gizzard. She thinks he may be in pain. Your chick is not eating/drinking.

It's very hard to know, but if the pin is stuck in the gizzard, then the chick won't be able to process foods properly. If he is in pain, then it may be kinder to put him down than to watch him starve to death.

Just my thoughts.
I know.
I could feed him by hand some warm weetabix and water. He might have a chance of passing it through.

I believe it has a good possibility of passing.

Now I'm wondering if more water or less water in the chicks system would be better?? Runny poo or cake-like poo? I'm thinking drier might be better.
To pass the pin his poop should be slightly harder. Curently his poop is runny white and yellow.

But how do you put a 3 month.old chick down when i have hand raised it since day 1.

Did the vet say to offer him poultry grit (crushed granite) free choice as well. The gizzard needs grit in order to process foods.

IF, and this is a big IF the gizzard were to grind most of it down - it's possible that he may pass it. It really depends on the damage it has done. Time will tell.

Keeping him hydrated is very important, so try to get fluids into him.

Okay thanks. No this vet did not say anything else. I could give him so grit. So would it break a metal pin down even a bit??
I dont if it has done any damage yet i am being careful to hold him and he is resting most of the time

I have read of grit grinding down a screw a chicken ate, so I think I would offer grit. I wouldn't put him down just yet. I would take the wait and see approach. Keep him hydrated and just watch for a while.

:hugs
It is best to contact the vet to see if she does recommend that you offer grit. She may think it could cause the gizzard to become impacted or shut down - we just don't know - she saw what she saw and made her recommendations.

If the poop is starting to become bloody, then most likely the pin has punctured something.

As to your question of putting him down - It's fairly rare that I even recommend it so quickly, nor do I take it lightly. It's so very hard to put down anything that you love and care for - it's one of the hardest decisions in life that we all must face at some point in our lives. It's up to us as responsible caretakers to determine what is best for them. If he is suffering and in pain and after re-consulting the vet for more information, I'm sure you will make the right decision whether to wait and see or to have her put him down.
