Do chickens have an inner eyelid? The other day when I was taking pictures of Shea's earlobe, one of them came out like this. It's had me rather confused. I've never seen it, and as soon as I saw the picture I went and checked her but her eyes are clear. I thought maybe it was just the picture, but thre rest of her in the picture is clear too. Can anybody suggest what it is I might actually be looking at here?

Mind blowing info:
Eyes: Chickens have better vision than people, by several measures. Their ability to bring objects into sharp focus and to notice very small differences in color is better than human vision, even in newly hatched chicks. Chickens can even see ultraviolet light. (Unless you have super-human powers, you can’t.) In case you were wondering, the most common chicken eye color is reddish-brown.

A chicken’s upper and lower eyelids aren’t meant for blinking. Instead, chickens have a third eyelid for that — the thin, translucent nictitating membrane. When it’s not in use, the third eyelid is stowed in the corner of the eye nearest the beak. It acts like a windshield wiper, or sometimes, safety goggles.

A chicken reflexively pulls the third eyelid up over the eye whenever she needs to clear some eye gunk or avoid flying debris (or a kid’s curious finger). When a chicken is sleeping, the lower lid is pulled up to close the eye; the upper eyelid doesn’t move much.
I also had no clue they could see UV. That's pretty awesome!

You went an got some chicks?
See, what had happened was...
I went to get some starter feed for the hatchlings. Naturally, I stopped to look at the chicks. First we need to back up about 10 days though...

Last time I went to TSC, they had just received a shipment of birds, including some Black Astrolope...

Okay, back to current time. While looking at the chicks, I noticed 3 older chicks that looked like Black Australorp that where in the straight run broiler ben. It just happened to be the manager that asked if I needed help, and I told him I would take the 3 black chicks. That happened to leave 1 broiler chick. Then the manager said "I'll give you a discount if you take all 4. How's a dollar each for the 3, and I'll give you the 4th for free? They're getting a bit older and we need to clear them out."

Any guesses what I said? If it's "yes" your wrong. I said "I'll take the last 2 Americanas also." Then I explained which ones where Americanas. :gig

So I got the 6 chicks for$12!

What's a chick magnet to do?!
;)
