Hard day here, lost my big orpington girl to the heat, so spent some time under the tree with my remaining flock. Looks way tiny now
Would have loved to react with 🧡 and a 😢 at the same time.
Sorry for the young life lost! - Would it help the chick(ens) if you provide them a shallow water pan?
Your flock looks really cute, it is so nice to see how the hens are caring for the little ones, scratching the ground in search for food…

Happy Thursday Everybody!

One day left this week… 🤤
Had to run outside today, cover the plant holes with some scrapwood, fill the third tomato trench with compost and tie or nail down everything, some bad weather is coming to town…

@Miss Lydia - dunno where you are in NC, but there's some bad weather approaching!
We had wind-gusts here that made the ducks fly, even the heavy ones!

I have one of those paint roller trays filled with water in their run, mainly so the chicks don't drown, but you know what chickens are like with warm water. The tray heated up and so did their tub. Mind you the winter chicken I was worried about (wyandotte) seemed to be only one not bothered by the heat. The two blue OEGs hatched those babies and now that they have stoppes trying to kill me it's nice to sit with them again

The ducks have learned to climb my steps and knock at the door. The world is no longer safe...
My gander used to do that. Until my dog stuck her head out and grabbed him by the chest feathers. Then the ducks and geese weren't allowed in the backyard without supervision. Thankfully she just managed to pull a lot of feathers but didn't get to his skin.

My cowardly foxhound is afraid of the ducks. Probably because he would get scolded and put in his crate whenever he tried to go after them! And the ducks KNOW they are relatively safe, too! They don't even get out of his way anymore!

Which is Laura ? Are you letting them free range alone?
Shes Rapey McRapefaces daughter. Rapey became stock cause well his name says it all. Yes after dogpocalyse I let them free range. The electric fence literally made them sitting ducks. So I think coop life is bad.I can't build a run and the electric fence just kept them in so the dogs could kill them all.
