Are you adding epsom salts to the water to help with any soreness?
Guess what was the second thing she did after touching the water? - She started to drink out of the tub… - And how many kilos of Epsom salt would i need for a bathtub?
Thought about soaking her feet in Epsom-Salt brine in a bucket, but she would destroy the bucket and beat me up with the handle…
I massaged both of her legs with gold-blond - the stuff to heal old skin...

Looked up »mineral tub« and - those are expensive!
I thought more about buying a couple of orange, red or blue buckets and use those as nesting boxes…
We don't have cattle.. We don't buy the mineral tubs with the mineral in them. We get them from people who have bought them after the cows are done with them.

I used buckets for nesting boxes for the ducks before. They did not like them very well.

My Ducks like to make their own nests inside of the places I have for shelter for them. There was a water tub inside of a duck house that a friend gave me years ago that I fill with wood shavings and they will use that too. It's the size of 4 dish pans put together and some of them will lay in it instead of making an indentation in the ground and then covering it with wood shavings to hide it from me. lol

I also observed when I had those buckets in the duck house That they preferred to make nests out in the covered part of the run where they could dig a little hole in the ground. The ones who went broody out there seems to hatch more eggs as well. I think the curvature of the bucket made it difficult for them to turn their eggs the way they wanted to.

That's exactly what mine do. They will dig a small impression in the ground or in the pine shavings and then lay their eggs. I guess that is more natural for them as that is what they do in the wild. When ever my Mallard hatched any out they were always from a nest like that.

That's a good idea! - I need to ask my neighbor with the cows.

Still searching for the best dux-furniture, but i am afraid there is nothing quackfect:
Some ducks love to sit in the straw on the top-floor shelf, some dig their nests in the deepest corner of the house, others don't like to have a roof over their heads, some want to have walls around them and some just want to sit in the middle of an open area.

I have the same concern with the curvature of the buckets. But when you cut those mineral buckets in half, you get the best of both: A nice curved roof and a flat surface to build a flat nest.

Last year it was the dux, building their nests on the upper level "shelf" who were most successful - well, in teamwork with their humon duck-dad who took over after Buffzilla and Buffy left their nests with the early hatchlings. There were a lot of broken eggs in the nests on the ground...
