You might be better just having a handicapped duck. Ducks really don't do well with anesthesia. A number of them die.the vet school said they give no discounts, and that I might as well go to a vet closer to home. i was able to scrape up enough for an exam with my local so we are going tomorrow afternoon. I kind of feel like I’m just going to find out that there’s expensive surgery available that I can’t afford at this moment, but perhaps God will make a way. so off we go. pic of Frankie and friends from today. The new name won’t stick so we’re back to Frankie. decided it’s short for Frankincense. View attachment 3846365
yes I am fine with the handicap as long as there isnt suffering and pain with it. I want the vet to give me a pro opinion re quality of life. You might be better just having a handicapped duck. Ducks really don't do well with anesthesia. A number of them die.
Do they have access to grit? They have to have grit to process anything other than their crumbles. If the do then put a corn cob in with them they will have a blast only thing is corn is a carb so be sure to keep foods like that to minimum and give them their feed most of all. So they are getting the right amount of proteins and other nutrients too.Hey friends -
at what age is it OK for ducklings to try eating whole corn kernels?
They have been eating grains for a while but not corn and not raw; they got cooked rice, barley, millet...
Asking of course for our month old ones, not the ones that have only recently been hatched this past weekend.
Thanks!
Wow, you got so many!!! Congratulations!!! I missed the hatch and somehow lost this site. That happens to me sometimes, lol.Yes, they have grit.
An entire cob? They will be able to pull the kernels off it? It sounds... optimistic as they don't have sharp beaks like chickens but hey worth a try. The adults are getting individual whole kernels.
The 1-month-olds also have some starter crumble but not as their main food anymore; they graze a lot and receive mixed cooked grains, peas and yeast. They like peas the best.
The newborns (3 day olds) are fully on starter crumble at the moment. They sure do poop a lot haha ... since there are now 8 of them instead of our 2-duckling "practice run".
oh and other color suggestions are welcome. my duck house is periwinkle,, and my chicken coop is black and white with a little red. however, tbh I might have to get whatever is available on the returned paint shelf for the cheapo price. i hope there’s something nice thereView attachment 3848842le goose house has arrived. what a blessing after 4 years of walking the geese down a Rocky path to get to my garage addition room every night. needed this house to accommodate Frankie when he is ready to live with mom and dad.
