There are unfortunately none close by.
Don't feel bad, sometimes we just have to say NO! I had someone the other day wanting me to take their Call Ducks. 4 drakes, 2 hens. They wanted a more tamer duck, a Rouen and hubby told them these had to go before he would allow a bigger duck. I told them I could not. Too much noise from the females and I already am at my max with drakes. They took it well. A friend of mine had given them my number knowing I had ducks. When we can't do it we can't do it and the other person has to move on to their next idea of what to do with them. I did not feel guilty because I know what I can do and not do. You made a wise choice when you don't have the resources to take it on.

Last night, just past 10:30, as I was about to go to bed, I got an incoming text. Turned out to be someone replying to one of my sales ads online. BUT, this girl was trying to GIVE me her duck! She sounded desperate too, even offered to pay me.

I could tell she was young, and I felt really bad for the duck. She has it inside her apartment, and alone.

Not wanting to be just as irresponsible since I'm over-crowded this year with not being able to free range them (instead of a muddy field my yard is this year a lush jungle of weeds taller than me!), I thanked her and said no.

Been thinking about it and I really don't know if I should have accepted for the sake of the duck and then tried to rehome it, but my feed bills are already through the roof, ducks are crowded, I have no idea what the health of this bird is, and honestly I'm afraid it might be someone trying to scam me and get my address.
Reminds me to that Sunday evening when i was offered 30+ ducks from my former hatching duck-egg customer…
Remember i said "no" too, because there is no room for another 30 birbs here.

ugh! my six-year-old Pekin named Chubbs I was just talking about hurt her right leg and she’s limping this morning. I gave her B complex brought her inside put her in my bathtub full of warm water letting her just float around in there to rest. I wonder how long I can leave her in there? One hour? Two hours? How long is too long for an adult duck to just float in a bathtub? I toss some mealworms in there, but she hasn’t eaten them.😔
I know why i don't want Pekin ducks. - She can sit in that bathtub as long as you can deal with the denser and denser poop-soup and the duck-smell.

lol why why. my white layers are very similar. They are walking slower and sometimes need rest in ducky hospital room too. they are 8 years old and weight almost as much as Chubbs. not very different imo. they also have laying issues as they are. i think because they are bred to lay so much, they have issues in older age.

Think it's time for a diet! :lau

AS the days are lengthening here, the ducks are paying rent providing 2 eggs aday out of 3 ducks, the 5 chooks are yet to begin and are still free loading. It's also fox season, they have begun watching the human activity, even going so far as practicing their whistling outside our irish workers cottage while they were watching a horror movie just to watch them almost hit the ceiling jumping with fright.
