So the black one seems to be trying to quack. And almost 100% sure the mallard one is male.
Do you know their age? I have a Mallard duckling that is six weeks old and started out sounding raspy but now is sounding more clear when I pick it up and a deeper voice, not the usual loud peeps that I have gotten in the past or the whistles. Good luck with yours.

They don't but neither do they peep. They make a weird noise I've never heard before!
That was how my Welsh Harliquin Baby was at 4 weeks and my Mallard all the way through. Not 100% sure but thinking the Mallard I have might be a female also. My Welsh was sexed and sold as a girl but they both made quiet little cute noises from day one. The Mallard has a green sheen on its head but I noticed today that one of my adult female Mallards does too so you can't go by that for sure.

Previous owner thinks they hatched maybe in the first week of July, so maybe about 2 months old. The mallard one was being raspy today.

Fine Fine! Took some this morning when I fed them! They are nice and active and alert.

See what I mean about the mallard one looking like a not-Call?

In that last pic, no his foot isn't twisted it's just the way he was standing at that particular time.
Beautiful birbs! 💜
She really looks like a wild mallard and has a beautiful face. Here skull does not look "call duck" at all. He really looks like a typical call-duck drake with his round head. And yes, i still get fooled by my dux ability to misplace their legs and feet…
»My left leg feels uncomfortable… Its twisted… should i move to straighten it? - Nah! - Too much effort…«

I am observing this bird in the flock of wild Mallards since the last two weeks:
full
It looks as if she has a crest?! - Do crests appear as a spontaneous mutation in wild Mallard populations or did somebody have an affair with one of my drakes? My flock is infested with the curse of the crest since 2019, thanks to Ideal Poultry's so called Magpie Ducks.
I will try to get a better picture of her asap, but they won't let me come closer than five steps…

i separated my chickens from the ducks today. 18 ducks / only 3 chickens and the ducks have been living in fear all year. ducks were so happy today i heard them talking about it! chickens are sad though but they have their own space now and it’s really nice so they shouldn’t complain. ( but you know they will)

I have a Speckled Sussex who complains about everything.
