What breed is the duck on the right? - She looks almost exactly like my Milka Duck, except that Milka has a white spot on her neck…
Pistachio also has a white mark on her neck! Her dad was absolutely fawnwhite runner, her momma a khaki Campbell -OR a Cayuga - but I think the khaki .

Freaky Weather Friday
to Everybody!

Very determined ducks here! We have about 2cm of snow already on the ground and everyducky enthusiastically ran out of the house and up to the pond without hesitation for cold feet… 😲

Looking into the weather forecast makes me 🥶shivvver:

I fear for the plants on my patio, the kerosene heater i bought last year needs a new wick which seems to be made out of Unobtanium and the electric space-heater is too weak to keep that patio warm enough. 😱

Oh wow... (OK not that much for the Canadians among us but) -15 overnight and -5 over the day is pretty hardcore. It used to be like that for us in the past decades but lately not anymore, a -10 / 0 day is already unusually cold. A couple of those are coming mid-January.

Exactly. It all depends where you are and what you're used to. But even if I'm used to frigid conditions it doesn't mean I like it! Or the birds do!

Just spread out some more straw over the frozen ground and snow for the poor things. They were quite thankful. It also gives them something to dig through and entertain themselves with. As soon as the straw was down, the ducks started flapping to make it fly around!

yes, temps are in Celsius. I still have not found the fast-forward to March button ⏩
Forecast is up to 10" of snow here, followed by ice and then rain…
Ryan Hall is calling it »Major Winterstorm« - I have no clue about ranks, but even if it would be »Four Star General Winterstorm« i don't want him here! Stay away! 😝

Those temps are only telling ½ of the story: This cold comes with a persistent wind from the NW to NNW which makes the real-feel temps even colder.
Talking about wind, yesterday when that squall-line came through we had one single gale that blew the six landscaping timbers, weighing down the heavy tarp on the duck's run, fly off like matches. The tarp fortunately stayed on…
