The first chickens I ever got on purpose were a pair of light brahmas as chicks, from a feed store. So brahmas have a special place in my heart.

Coronation will be like Coronation sussex, only of course the lavender will also be in the rooster's saddle feathers, where the black is in a regular Light.

Oh that sounds pretty neat too.

According to her, she ended up with them because of her kids, I think? She told me three teenage girls, at least one of which I'm assuming was hers, lol, went to Tractor Supply and just bought them on a whim.

Chicken wire's good for keeping chickens out of a garden, I guess? Beyond that, not a lot, lol. Maybe dividing pens inside a big barn that's predator proof otherwise. But it's definitely no good for protecting anything from predators.

Oh, I like Cream! I think Cream for this new girl. Sourdough is also really cute. Maybe for the drake...hmm.
Cream and Coconut!!

Those are absolutely gorgeous.

I am back from getting the drake. I came home with two ducks instead of one.

I felt really bad for them. The people were duck newbies and didn't really know much about ducks. They had seven total, got super lucky and only one was a drake, and they did not know the difference so I had to keep pointing out which bird we were trying to catch and they grabbed the wrong one a couple times.

Anyway, why I felt back for the ducks was because they were living under a trampoline with chicken wire strung up around the outside to keep them in, and it was a total mud pit under there. After we caught the drake, the woman mentioned that she wanted to downsize further and asked if I knew anyone who might want some more. I told her I could take some of the girls too if she wanted. Then she said she wanted to wait until spring because apparently they have a fox come through every year that eats some of their chickens and she's pretty sure it will get some of the ducks too. Just matter of fact about that, no attempt to keep them safe, she was just sure the fox would eat some of her birds.

In the end she told me I could take one of the girls too if I wanted, so I did. They are covered in mud that is probably composed largely of duck poop and they stink, poor things. I'm sure they'll be much happier in the emu pasture than they were under that trampoline.

I'm gonna have to come up with some names. I named the two from the other woman Sugar and Flour. So I want to either stick to that theme or just the theme of naming them after white things. I might call the drake Cotton if I go that route, haven't decided yet.
