The Quack Shack

They are very attractive. How are they about being handled in general?
The ones I hatched will allow me to hold them, but I’m not allowed to be restrictive. :gig So I let them sit on my hand with my other hand cupped over them (not yet touching them) in case they try to fly. The adults I purchased are skittish as heck. :lau

Oops.
5 cockerels and a pullet. Old English Game Bantams. Keeping the best cockerel and the pullet.
Culling the rest. :/ YAY, FREE BIRDS!! Plus for those of you who don’t know me well enough- I have a HUGE addiction to Old English Game Bantams (OEGBs). :drool

So I have yet to see a OEGB in person, but I completely understand the Bantam craze. Cleo, the mother to the mix I have is one calm and social bird. I actually took her for a walk yesterday around the block just holding her in my hands up to my chest. We even got a lunged at by a good 60 lb dog, it scared the living crap out of me, she didn't even so much as chirp.

Does being good dog bait equate to being a good pet?
:lol::lol::lau

I have to tell you about my OEGB roo Adam he has been the best surrogate dad to the Cochin Bantam chicks that hatched here . They are 6 weeks old now 2cockerels 2 pullets and him an mama are still taking care of them it’s the sweetest thing.
That's freaking awesome! Is it something he naturally does, the surrogate part? I kind of understand a Broody Chicken being willing to hatch and raise other breeds I just didn't realize roosters did it to.

Most roosters will feed young but Adam has taken it to a whole mother level, the mama is Cochin Bantam and so is her chick actually none of the 4 moms are OEGB hens they are Cochin Bantam. Adam doesn’t care, even now that the moms are back laying he is baby sitting while she is in the nest box. I think that is why non of my OEGB eggs have been fertile Adam spreads all his time with these other hens.

Do you eat them? Sorry, I seem to be obsessed with eating.
Well BBQ guail is delish. But I can't eat my own birds.
They are so cute. Are you going to eat them?
Mmmm, bbq.

View attachment 1821576 if you mean my new babies, Sparkles is growing and Beverly appears to be a drake, though he's been a good mom. Natasha is very happy.
Are they generally loud? I'd love tho have some geese, but I feel like I'm already pushing it...
They are gorgeous though!

Mine are loud especially during breeding season which is almost half the year!
My neighbors know about my birds and nobody readily cares. The are at least 5 people I know of here who keep birds, but you barley hear any of them. That is until you walk by my house. My oldest Pekin lady has a lot on her mind at times.
