By the way... This intersection has claimed more lives than any other in our county. Good thing that cat's got 8 lives to go.

Okay, to a more serious part.

My birds are sick, and a few have died. I've spent the last few days freaking out over what to do. Hustling in the heat trying to get birds moved, housing improved, and reading till my eyes crack. To the best of what I can figure out (plus @casportpony suggested treating for it) I'm dealing with cocci, or however it's represented. Bull cocky is what it is. So far 1 guinea fowl, and 2 of the barnyard Bantams have died, with one being Momma Cloe.

It's got me in a very frustrated and depressed manor right now. I know you guys and gals understand, these are not livestock to me. They have names, and snuggle with us, and bring smiles and joy just by being there.

One thing I've learned the last few days, is there is a LOT to learn about chickens. Oh, and troubleshooting/diagnosing is about a 4 letter word on it's own. Everything I read was "these are the options 1)blah 2)blah blah 3) it just died" Do chickens really die often enough some people actually say "They just die" like it's an answer?

For now all the birds minus the ducks are being treated with Corid. Finding the proper dosage for that was a bit frustrating too, but thanks to a thread from 2011 I was able to find the right mixture, hopefully. Just in case I am mixing 1/2tsp powder to 1 gallon of water. That is the powered Corid (20%) not the liquid Corid.

I took care of Miss Cleo all day yesterday. I didn't even know she was ill till then. She has always been docile and friendly, but yesterday she was extremely lethargic. When I would put her down, she would slightly fall to one side till she caught herself. While holding/petting her she was falling asleep, something not all that normal for her. I hand fed her and made sure she had fluids. At 9pm last night, she was holding on, but this morning she had already died.

On top of the guilt I'm felling about it all, I'm also worried that the Ayam Cemani might die too. They are also being treated, and I've not noticed anything suspicious, but neither did I in Cleo. I look at the Cemani as pets, but those where some expensive chickens, ones I can't afford to let die.

Anyways, that's whats been going on here the last couple of days. Thanks for having a read.

Last night watching the local mad house from a distance. It draws thousands of hot & sweaty, shoulder bumping, deodorant needing individuals. The lake however, well it only draws in the mosquitoes.

I need to name the cemani pair. I'm not really sure what to use. I've not had a whole lot of alone time with them, but I was able to bring the hen in for a while this morning. She's actually quite docile once you catch her. Same for the rooster, once caught, really easy to handle.
I need to rent an apartment for the family too... Then I can move the birds in the house. ;)
