Oh....I almost forget. You CAN find out of date APA books online. Just not the current version. I think I cam across some 1920's area standards when I was searching for old breeders commentaries on-line. The standards don't change much, but getting the current book for a home reference is probably best.Wow man, that is awesome. I really appreciate you taking the time to give me your thoughts on that.
The current plan is to get my membership to the livestock conservancy, and the APA standards book. Between what you and a few other people have said in regards to the books, I think it would be a good idea to go ahead and invest in them.
I currently don't have much interest in showing birds, but I've never actually been to a poultry show so for all I know I might just love it. I would however love to attend a few, even if it's just for my own entertainment and to expand my education. There doesn't seem to be many around here though.
Again, I really appreciate you leaving your thoughts on the subject.![]()
No your good, we didn't have all those things for comfort but I can tell you we were miserable. lolI'd like to retract my last complaint!

Thanks Patti@casportpony may know
Hmm, I missed your post this morning.
I actually really like Bantams, but with my experiences so far, I am trying to stay away from them for now. (boy is that hard, 2 free OEGB on CL, 1ea m/f) Between illness, and predators I lost around 15 birds in 2 weeks. It broke my heart, so I'm trying to get large fowl that hopefully will be more hardy, predator savvy, and so on. I will indeed have some more, but it wasn't very long ago, and I am a big ole' tenderfoot...
That being said, I would love to read what your book has on Seramas. I just can't let that breed go. I love my little cheap-o pet quality Seramas! They sleep inside the house and get hand delivered to their run every day and night.
Seller: Now these are not show quality.
Me: Oh don't worry. I'll have no problem showing them off.
I've got a birthday coming next month. Maybe I'll get lucky and find the large fowl book wrapped in some paper. I don't really know what info is in the books, but you have a good point with my genetic interest. That alone would make it worth it's cost.
I'll be setting 6 Blue Isbar, 6 Black Australorp, and 8 Wheaten O Shamo with potentially 4 barnyard mixed chickens. I've got to many ducks now as it is to try them yet. Lol, plus if I can manage to be patientgig), duck eggs will be free soon.
I would LOVE to hatch some Saxony eggs at some time though. It's one of the breeds I would like to work with down the road some. are you going to be posting anywhere on their progress? I would love to follow along.![]()
This happened tonight!

The OShamo should be here in around 12 hours to fill in ther gaps. I went ahead and added two of the Barnyard mixes in there. I don't have the highest hopes for him, but it wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong. That's one of those times where you're going to happy to be wrong I suppose.
I found a couple of older (1920 and earlier) on amazon for $15-25. I thought I hit gold for a moment, but now that you mention standards not changing much, it might not be a bad idea to have one. I do agree though about getting the current book. Thanks again bud.Oh....I almost forget. You CAN find out of date APA books online. Just not the current version. Hey there! Sorry I missed your post yesterday. With the wife and kids out of town, I'm pretty "busy." What I mean by that is... I spent some extra time sleeping, playing with the birds, and even watched a bit of tv.Hey there y'all. I am late to the party as usual! Been a busy morning! Hope everyone has a great day!
