Oats & Barley are a super food for poultry up to a point. They are an example of too much of a good thing can be bad. They can be chemically treated to prevent the problem but then they lose the advantages that they bring to the table.

Thanks Patti and Chris.:hugs

ETA: This is a nice read from the guy I use as my nutritionist.
Thanks for the attached document. I'm definitely going to read that! :)

So next week is going to be interesting with the storm on the way. Looks like the birds might be spending a day or two under cover. This will be our first hurricane in this house which is always interesting. Lots of old trees here. The back corner of the property is in the flood plane too. Lol, we might just have lake front property for a while. The ducks are going to love it. :lau

Thanks Bob for the information!

Okay Chris now I am wanting NN again But I think it will be bantam those roos get huge.
Putting up with a teething child is trying on it's own, as I'm sure you know. Seeing those cute little smile though, they just wipe the slate clean and melts my heart all over again.

Well... Ed to Tall was the start of my Nn search ya know. He was one good looking fella. Actually, I was really hoping the farm had some pullets in Ed's coloring.

I can't wait to see what the offspring with the Nn and the AC roo will be like. I really want to get to the point of harvesting some of our own meat, and that is where the NNxAC cockerels will come in. Well most of them. My only concern (if you'd even call it that) is my AC is bred to the indonesian standard and is more of a game bird than a fluffy chicken. Might cut down on the meatyness. I don't know, but whatever I get will still be better than the store bought stuff we are eating now.

Part of letting the AC be the flock roo is to also make some neat fibro crosses. I can't remember the members name, but he had an AC roo that made some beautiful babies. His ACxEE was particularly wonderful to look at, very colorful.

Wow I bet that was an interesting cross.

I know poor wee ones when cutting teeth that is so painful. Is there anything that helps now? will he chew on those frozen things for teething babies? Leg bone maybe? lol
Not really, he doesn't seem to like cold stuff. I tried the steak strips that Bob suggested and ended up adding it to my eggs for breakfast. He doesn't like chewing on plastic or rubber either. He does like fennel which is nice, we've got a pot of it growing in the back, but that's about the only thing he'll chew on.

Once the first tooth broke the surface, it's seemed to not bother him as much. Plus he seems easily distractible with trying to walk. All together it's been a bit easier this week than last week.
