Flying by the seat of my pants!
So I've been thinking... Shocker huh?
I'm reserving the right to be wrong here by the way.
I'm curious why the Tomaru chick is not more black. For a solid black chicken, it just seems to have a lot of bronze/brown on it. The Ayam Cemani and Black Swedish Hen are both similar in colors and growth, but their chicks are solid black. My theory is it's vision impairment and coloration are connected like double merle dogs.
I can't find a picture of a Tomaru chick to save my life. I've called GFF and left a message, but nobody has called me back yet. For all I know this chick might look just like it should.
I know the merle gene works with/on pigment, so I'm not suggesting the chick has merle genetics. The white in the eye is the cornea, not the iris. That being said, I wonder if something either genetically or during the incubation process disturbed the development process resulting in a lack of both vision and pigment.
Any ideas on my ideas?
