I keep them separated from fences, hoping they'll eventually get used to each other.. The cocks with each other in the same coop grew up together and have figured out their pecking order... I think.. the bigger one leads them around, the silkie cockerel is actually the lowest behind even the lowest of pullets, he normally hangs out with the other silkies or stays with peanut my other cockerel.. who is just under my Asian black cockerel, then my pullet is under peanut... the older pullets are jut figuring out their places with the cockerels and they seem higher than him right now, even though is is bigger he is younger.. The silkies are neutral, staying with the reds but not bothering really..

I was so hoping my 2 young roos were going to be okay here. Until yesterday I had to bring one inside yesterday afternoon and treat his torn waddle and comb from fighting he was bloody and I didn't dare put him in the coop like that. I haven't seen them this morning and Missy is quiet so hopefully that is good news that everyone is just trying to survive instead of trying to prove who is the toughest.
That really stinks. Hopefully the young fella is doing okay today. I'm sure Ralphie will point out how cold it is else where... but just surviving the temps you guys have sounds darn tough to me. ;) Lol, as bad as I want to move to SC, I am loving the temps we are having right now. :D

I'll be honest I'm still waiting on the 2 Serama roos to turn on each other. Sadly, if that happens the best thing I could do is remove A'pollo, as General has no siblings here to mate with. General is more flashy in looks, but A'pollo just has beautifully classic colors.

Lol, ya know I like my roos, but I have been trying to take my rooster husbandry much more serious. As a result, the birds seem much happier, especially the cocks. Ugh, I can't even tell you how bad I just want to pick up Sully and just cuddle him.

To go along with improving my husbandry, I was able to rehome Nibbler, the Dampierre cockerel. He went to a small homestead/farm that recently lost their roo, and he will be the only male in the flock. I hated letting him go, but it's in everyone's best interest, especially his. Hugee thank you to Sandra the owner of A Fowl Business. She's not a member here, but if anyone ever get the chance to deal with her, do it with ease.

That's great Chris you found him a good home. It's so scary with all the cock fighting that goes on and seeing first hand what people do with young roos to train their fighters, I'd rather eat one than put one through that horrible death. Al was holding the little cochin last eve while I was treating him and said why there is nothing to this bird. They can really fool ya with all those feathers.
Quiet as mice outside right now so all is well.

Yep much colder up @duluthralphie way I'll take our temps any day.

It's sad what people are willing to put animals through. Poor Nibbler would have made a "good" bait bird too. I told Sandra I was worried about his saftey staying here, but more worried about him being put in the ring or on the table. Before I could even have another thought, she offered to list him through her business. The person who got him was a previous customer of hers, and was willing to pay $40 for him. When they got here though I told them to keep the money as it was just to make him less attractive for shady people.

I was so proud to have him. I had such high hopes. In the end though I have a roo I really love, and they get a roo that deserves (and is now getting) a fair chance.

Win Win there. That is so great to have someone you trust help you too. When I knew I was going to have to rehome 4 of my beautiful Runner drakes back in the summer my good friend and member here @CrystaBub went and found the 4 boys wonderful homes and that was such a blessing knowing they were going to be safe and loved.

The power of people helping people is just amazing. To me, it's freaking nerve racking to try and sell one of our animals. It literally gives me panic attacks just thinking about all the bad things that could happen. That's a big reason why I still have all the ducks I do. I bet it was a major stress relief to know you'r drakes went to good homes.

When we magically get rich, I'll have my animal refuge. It's going to be huge, and have plenty of room to have all my roosters. :D
Just gotta find my bag of magic powder first lol. While I am fantasizing, there's going to be a giraffe too!
