Ralphie have you some great advice but I also want to say that recall is very important and it’s nice to have a wait command, though it seems Ralphie uses no in a similar way. Then other stuff like down, stay, loose leash walking, etc. is mice to have but not 100% necessary if the others are solid.
Some people actually don’t believe in teaching a separate stay because they say that the stay should just be implied. i.e. I give you a command, you stay in that command until I tell you otherwise or give you another one. So that there is no need for the stay. But it’s all personal preference. I like teaching it but do also work on the dog understanding that they have to wait for my release.
But a solid recall or even just a very solid sit, down, or wait, can save your dog's life.
Say your dog is running after his ball that accidentally rolled into the road or he’s chasing after a squirrel or what have you....
If he knows how to IMMEDIATELY return back to you or IMMEDIATELY freeze upon command, you can stop him before he runs into the road.
So I honestly think recall, some sort of wait/freeze/stop (whether that’s just no or a separate command or whatever. I like them separate but personal preference), sit or down, and no are the most important mostly just because they could save his life.
IDK, DW says I'm a slow learner, took her 15 years to teach me to put the seat downCongratulations @Tooshay89 !!I like not forgetting the date, and there's always an endless supply of gifts to choose from, but then again, we married our way out of a holiday!!
Beautiful thing when you can stick through the good and bad as long as you gentlemen have! Your wives must have you trained well by now
Honestly, in my experience, the first +/- 5 years was the hardest....smooth sailing now! We are counting down the days till we can boot some of these kids out of here now
And that's alright @shawluvsbirds my secret motivation for making it work....outlasting my husband's first wife![]()
