@KDOGG331 have you been teaching your pair to talk? That was my favourite thing about having a budgie as a kid.

I haven’t been but I’ve been singing to them and playing music lol they love it. They’re so cute. And they love their new cage. I love seeing how happy they are exploring everything. :love

I wish my drake would stop practicing on me. I pick him up, ho ld him down, but he still bites. Especially if I try to take the egg. He is crazy about the egg.

I knew you had weird animals down under, but a drake that lays egg is unbelievable!!

Amazing land you live in.. :lau

Hello all!

So... 12 runner duck eggs showed up on my doorstep this morning. I hadn't gotten any shipping notifications, so I totally wasn't expecting them yet. But they're here! Still no word on the other breeds that I pre-ordered. They were supposed to come a month ago but yeah... still don't have them. Oh well.

I know ducks are messy, but is it okay to set dirty duck eggs? And I don't mean like a little smudge or two. These things are grody. Mud splattered everywhere.

We decided to just incubate the ducks and keep a few. We can't afford to build their big enclosure yet, but my husband suggested we take our plastic fencing stuff and use that to create their run until we have the money to "do it up right." I guess we'll see if it works well enough. The coop is fort knox level, so maybe they won't get picked off by hawks if I keep a good eye on them? We've had pretty good luck with hawk encounters since it got warm. Maybe there's more for them to eat now?

Also, @Trimurtisan! You seem to be a Marans guy. I traded my extra roos (in case anyone was wondering, all 3 of my chocolate orps ended up being roos, not just the two. I kept the one I liked the most) for a Marans hen with a friend of mine that runs a 4H program locally. She said she's a birchen. I have her in my quarantine area, but I'll have to get some pictures of her tomorrow so I can verify what I have. Google images didn't help much. She seems sweet enough, so hopefully she fits in. I just really wanted more layers and she will hopefully add some color to our light brown layers.

If mine are especially nasty, I wash them gently with warm water. I haven't found that it affects my hatch rate :)
