Blue bibbed. Like blue swedish. As a juvenile he was fawn and white. But as an adult I would probably say Lilac pied. As he was mostly gray with black head. Unfortunately he was killed by dogs. His off spring that I still have are white or blue bibbed except for one little girl that's Saxony colored including the eye stripes???
Ill reply to myself here. That little girl has a different mom. Her mom was half Saxony half WH. I had temporarily forgotten that so explains why she's different. I will miss this drake in my breeding as his offspring are fantastic egg layers. 300 A year. Hence the line breeding. I had started with some new breeds to introduce some different DNA. Then i got dogpocalypse and lost ten hens and both drakes.

Okay, all the drama is out of the way. For now.

HI! :frow

Wake up to find my incubator stopped heating over night. Eggs were stone cold, temp down to 20 C / 68 F. Minor heart attack. I'm down to 5 eggs from 24 (granted, of those 24 two were tossed immediately, and I found cracks in others, and some weren't fertilized, etc). Needless to say, I was not pleased. Got the heater working again and checked one of the eggs and saw movement. THANK THE POWERS THAT BE! I'll leave them for now and candle them tonight when I mist them.

Go out to get the critters taken care of. My daughter is still sleeping (as is my grandson) and his bus was due to come in twenty minutes. Guess who ended up driving the grandson to school?

As he was getting ready, I brought food out to the rabbits. More escapees. I have no idea what little hole those kits are finding, but they found them! Still one missing... Blocked off wherever I thought it was they might be getting out of. Hopefully, that works., because it's raining, again, and I don't want to get soaked while changing the set-up and repairing cages.

I can see a Friday at the horizon…

Happy Wednesday everybody!

I think one of my Speckled Sussex has been taken by a predator. For the 3rd time this year she thought it was a good idea to go over the fence into the woods to brood. Last 2 times I found her and her nest of 18 eggs [non-fertile] My rooster is 13 and my youngest is 5 and way to small to fertilize. OEGB. I have looked for her and even though she could be really hiding she has always come home to eat. I haven't seen her for 5 days now. :(
