The Quack Shack

I had to burn the last cardboard-boxes and brush/tree/scrapwood pieces for this year:

The Mallards needed to be stuffed full in preparation for the cold weather, so i coaxed them off the icy pond and fed them with pellets, sunflower-seeds, scratch-grains and cracked corn until they were only able to walk back to the pond. They were crop-heavy… :gig

And finally i wanted to lay-out the future berry-garden for next year. I am planning to grow blueberries, elderberries, gooseberries and currants - strawberries are already planted. The red rope is the future fence-line:

The area is 7x10 meters, that should be enough space for some decent berry-bushes. In 2018 i planted currants and gooseberries in the wrong spot behind the house, where they don't get much sun, so this winter i will dig them out and re-plant them into the area above where there is plenty of sunshine from spring to late fall. And i will try to buy some additional berry plants.

This is what the weather situation looks like right now here in Charleston:

The front with heany rain, wind-gusts, sleet and finally snow is expected to arrive at 3am. Temperatures will be dropping to -17° (1.5F) and we will be below the freezing mark until Tuesday morning. :th

First the strawberry plants needed to be covered in duck-poop soiled hay:
The hay will decay quickly in spring, releasing some extra nutriens into the soil. Hopefully i will harvest pumpkin-sized strawberries next year… 😜
Hopefully, they will taste like STRAWBERRIES! and not duck poop :D
