Have you ever had any cases of bumble foot? I was worried the wood chips would be hard on their feet. We have heavy clay also and I just put it on top of it. We have a local hardware store that can deliver up to 4 tons for me. I usually only get two at at time but was having a brain cloud and ordered 4 last year so I had 2 left over for this year to get moved. I put it on a trampoline tarp that my son had given me from his broken trampoline and them cover it with tarps that I have bought. We have a gravel driveway and overhead power lines so I too have to have a small truck for delivery otherwise they could not get it to where I would need it. You are in WV right?

I had one serious case of Bumble foot so far, that was with Bazilla Duck, a White Layer in i think 2020. So far nothing serious. All ducks seem to have bumbles or scars on their feet, even the wild Mallards, and as long as they don't limp i leave them in peace.
I am fortunate to have an arborist as one of my neighbors, they don't know what to do with all the woodchips and are glad if i take them. I could have tons and tons of them, but my processing capabilities are limited to a wheelbarrow…

No tennis playing in this court. Very coomon in Aust for the old tennis courts of farms to be converted to chicken runs. Not sure anyone use to play tennis back in the day, was more of a social status to have a tennis court

I need to add that to my "want to have it" list then:

Such a good Daddy!!!! Do all Toms act this way or is yours the special one? They sure are beautiful!!!

I think it's a bit out of the norm. A lot of toms are fine with poults and just basically ignore them. Some can get aggressive towards them. Rex here is just like, well, they're my babies now too, let's do this! Lol. I think it's definitely more on the uncommon side. But he's my only tom so this is only going from what other people with turkeys have said.

Good Grief! - What a difference in size between a Turkey and a Chicken!
I knew that Turkeys are large birds but i wasn't aware that theyare that huge.
Somehow the wild Turkeys here look smaller. You sure this is not a Turmu or an Emkey?

If it makes you feel better, she's a bantam, haha! That's one of my Ko Shamo hens. She has taken to following Rex around.

He does still come up to my hip though.

I'm 5' 7", so not too short, haha. He's just tall! Seriously, males can get up to 4 feet tall. They're bigger than you would think.

I have been very fortunate because none of my ducks have ever had a foot problem and two are big Rouen that are 6 years old and my one Huge Mule Duck that is as big as a Pekin. I bought a Gorilla Cart that is like a wagon and it dumps. It made moving the sand a lot easier as I pull it and then dump it. I got it from Walmart online and it was a great investment. Thanks for telling me about your wood chips. With them being free I can see why you would want to use them. I still work and my Ducks are my hobby. I have no real vices other than candy, lol, so spending money on my ducks is something I don't mind. If I didn't eat sugar I would not weigh anything. lol

Thanks for the info about Toms. I didn't know how they were with the young and I know all birds can be different. It is great that you have such a Sweet one. He sure is a beauty. Thanks again. Now we know the rest of the story, lol.

I have always wanted Turkeys. We have the wild ones here but never seen the Toms with and hens and poults.

I am 18 Miles East of Columbus in Pataskala. I live in a housing development but was born and raised in Columbus where I never got to have many pets. I now think I am a farm girl which has always been my dream and have my 20 ducks. lol Some people think I am crazy and others love it as they know no one else with ducks. My neighbors are very tolerant of both me and my ducks so I am very fortunate. If you ever needed any Mallard Drakes I believe I have at least 2 month old ones and can do a road trip, lol.
