I would love to have some Scovies, but Metzer only sells them straight-run. And with my luck i will end up with five drakes… 😲
I found mine on Craigslist. The first time I got two that the lady picked and thought at 3 days old they were females, who would know, right? One was a drake but I got my first female. Then when I traded my huge drake for over mating my females and hurting them I got a 3 month old female. You might try Craigslist as they offer females. Mine was young and she is a Sweetheart, white with a splash of black here and there and blue eyes.

I love the chocolates. Can't wait for my two to feather up. But right now, I'm completely smitten with this little one:

Named the little floof Smudge.

Do they have anything other than whites? I've found that the hatcheries around here only do the whites. You'd do better buying privately, imo. :)
What a cute little ball of fluff! 🧡
Yes, Metzer Farms have a Muscovy variety offer, black and white ducklings:

But still straight-run... 😧

Metzer is supposed to have Black ones too but still straight run. I am not sure why they can sex their other breeds but not these.
Their customer support told me that they don't raise the Muscovy ducks themselves, but work with several external breeders and they're unable to sex the ducklings. - Told them that i wouldn't buy straight-run, but they seem not to care.

I wish you lived closer to me. There are a ton of them on Craigslist not that far from me. I can't believe you don't have a lot of them on yours too. I guess I am super lucky here. They are the most popular duck on Craigslist.

New to me behavior from ducks: walking in a circle.

??

Turns out they spotted a slow worm, the legless lizard (this guy: Anguis fragilis - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slow_worm ). Small enough to look like food but large enough so this doesn't really work. They circled it for a while, pecked at it experimentally and in the end it managed to get away.
We had what I will call a skink in our yard the other day. Small lizard with a blue tipped tail. It was not far from the duck pen. I have never seen any in our yard before, only on the RR tracks not far from our house years ago. I don't know if they are poisonous or not but hopefully not because they are small enough that I could see one of my Ducks trying to eat it.

Mine eat salamanders I try to save them but the ducks and chickens are just too fast.
So glad to hear that they don't seem to hurt them. I have shrews too which are supposed to be poisonous but I know my Muscovy big drake probably ate some while he was here. I guess they must not hurt them either if he really did eat some. I am not 100% sure that he did.
