Today was Ducky's two weeks hatch-day!
Cooked rice is currently a no-eat thing, but it has discovered peas! And i'm very sure the peas are actually eaten because they're still green when they come back out…
Other than that everything is rejected but meal-worms, flies, fly-larvae and earthworms. Today we dug up the floor in the duck-run and ducky ate so many earth-worms that a happy nappy was unavoidable. After that we re-piled the compost from the last duck-run clean-out and again, plenty of earth-worms and another happy-nappy.
Before this evening's meal-worm pea-soup pig-out Ducky was at 190 grams:

But i am sure more than 10 grams of soup was gobbled down after this picture was taken…

Last weekend was a total loss, even the Ducks had enough of all that rain, the drizzle and the mud on Sunday afternoon:

After spending the afternoon outside with dad, ducky is worn out! There was so much to discover outside: We dug up the floor in the duck-run for worms and found a whole nest of fly larvae. We shoveled the old compost back into a nice pile and again found plenty of earth worms. And we filled the grown-up ducks layer pellets into plastic trash cans, so they won't spoil. Finally we wheelbarrowed a straw-bale from the garage to the duck house.
At this point ducky was too exhausted to walk to the pond, so dad carried it in a white bin uphill. While sitting on the bench, we discovered that the tall grass is full of seeds and that they're really tasty for ducky.

Anybody has an idea what kind of grass this is?

Finally, after a long day of foraging and grasing there's nothing better than a nice warm soup for ducknagers! - Nights are getting cold here in West Virginia in September, need to keep the ducks warm.

And Ducky is really worn out.

Since Saturday evening, Ducky has a new »plush family«: A large Momma Duck and five ducklings from Amazon…

Cuddling with yellow fluff-balls feels so natural for Ducky! But Momma Duck still looks a bit scary!

Lucky you! I tried to find 2 year old Grand daughter a fluffy large duck for her birthday last week and all I could find was a Chicken! I must not have looked hard enough as it came from Amazon and I was getting it for her birthday. She loved the chicken but I love your ducks!

Once fully feathered here in Ohio mine will be outside as their feathers keep them warm. They will be 4 weeks old soon and just starting to get their feathers on their chests. Yours are sooooo pretty Frank.

Looks like it's some sort of switch grass?

Absolutely! - And it is a native to the North American Continent! And it is very beneficial for the soil, loosening up poor hard soil (like i have here) so that air and water can penetrate easier but also keeping everything together with its extensive root system.

I was surprised too when i looked up »fluffy duck family« on amazon. Usually they don't have a lot of plush-duck stuff there. Its all about chickens…

Well Thank You! - They should already have joined the other's in the duck house, but i wasn't able to clean out the thick layer of bedding so far. I don't want them to have a bad first impression…
Working on moving the three month old compost away from the duck house's poop-door this week, so that there is enough room for some feet of "fresh" soiled straw…
