Your latitude is 38 north ... Our place is 46. Yet it's usually only January that's really nasty, February can start quite cold (for non-Canadian values of "quite cold") but later breaks into pleasant spring temps. There is usually a price to pay later on for those trees that were foolish enough to really start going all out with the first warmth, but .... we don't normally get "full winter" back after February. I plant spring garlic and shallots in mid February (can't do the autumn varieties because of heavy soil and inquisitive animals). You have 12 months/year in Slovenia too?
Here in WV we have to wait at least two months, until March before outside temperatures are supportive for cold loving vegetables like Kale, Mustard and Turnips…
Wow, talk about dine and dash!Christmas Video, delayed due to L triple R, of the Waddle Through Buffet in the duck-yard:
The disadvantages of living north of the Polar Circle…
-50° (-58F) i experienced in December 2009 in Red Deer Alberta. Rented a car in Calgary and there was a cable dangling from the front bumper. Walked back to the counter and told them that somebody had forgotten a power tool in the engine bay.
Yes, it's called a Block Heater. It keeps the engine block warm enough to start the car. Cars here used to be equipped with one as a standard feature. They have, for some odd reason, stopped doing that now. If you want one (and you do!) you must purchase it as an option.- Answer: Not a forgotten power tool, there will be an electrical outlet at every spot in the hotel's parking lot. Please plug-in the car over night otherwise it will be frozen solid and you will pay for the damage…
Breathing at these temperatures is painful. 🌡
You need more feed bowls to feed that army.Christmas Video, delayed due to L triple R, of the Waddle Through Buffet in the duck-yard:
Our -19 degrees F is freezing cold to us here in Ohio. I had a diesel Chevette that year and it started to gel up while I was driving it. I stopped at a fuel station though and was able to fill the tank while letting it run and we made it to my Son's doctor's appointment just fine. I used to plug it in at night because it had a block heater on it. I drove that car for 17 years and loved it. I surely would not like those temperatures and admire you for being able to withstand them. The disadvantages of living north of the Polar Circle…

I'm surprised they did not wait around for more food. You need more feed bowls to feed that army.
You might be at a higher latitude - very likely at a similar latitude than @Canadian Wind - but you are south of a mountain range that is oriented in east-west direction and prevents the cold air from the north migrating south.Your latitude is 38 north ... Yes beautiful and funny. Have you noticed the different running techniques that the ducks apply? The runners just run, the Buffies kick their legs to the side and the Swedish just stomp. The ducks just keep comingBeautiful!
