A failing door is one of my nightmares, recently - before the duckos went back to their pond i woke up at night because Blanca made a tantrum on the patio, looked outside and saw that the door to the duck-run was open. It is secured only with a snap-shut latch and so far there were never any problems. Maybe a curious deer?An ill-closing door that it managed to get through, then somehow also pushed back the sliding door into the coop itself.
As for your mouse problem, I recommend just getting one of those tilt-and-dunk traps that fit over a 5 gallon bucket. Better yet, check out Shawn Woods' youtube channel. He specializes in mousetraps and tests them all. You're sure to find one you like!

I'm not sure if that would help with these mice: They chewed through plastic-bags, they ate cardboard and styrofoam and are still multiplying. Some pieces of plywood are also missing…I have been putting out a mix of baking soda and cheap corn muffin mix half and half saw a farmer on Pinterest talking about it I don’t put it where my birds or dog can get into although it won’t hurt them but mice and rats can’t burp or pass gas so it takes care of them
Don'y buy plastic containers I had a heavy-duty plastic trash can sitting outside the coop and had thrown some wet feed into it the rats chewed straight through the heavy plastic and I mean a large hole too.A failing door is one of my nightmares, recently - before the duckos went back to their pond i woke up at night because Blanca made a tantrum on the patio, looked outside and saw that the door to the duck-run was open. I love Shawn's Mouse-Trap Monday channel! - But have no time to build anything. The new plan is to buy some cheap trash-cans, fill all the remaining bags into those, clean up the whole garage and remove any bit of food and then leave the door open during a warm day. No food and the mice likely will move on.
Blanca is quite the, ah, character!Update on Blanca Duck and El Chapo, they took a bath together and Blanca absolutely disliked sharing »her« bathtub with a "dirty" Drake:
As a result they flooded the basement of the house and a ducknami swept away the driveway. And yes, as a final destructive act Blanca ripped down the shower liner…
She is very slowly getting better, able to distribute her poop into the far corners of the patio:

But she is still far away from being able to be released to the pond. As for El Chapo, the "terrormycin" creme and the eye-drops start to show an effect on his eyes. The infection is almost gone, but the lenses in his eyes are cloudy. He is able to see enough to find food and water and get around.
I have scheduled a vet appointment for Blanca next Wednesday after which the vet will retire due to the loss of all his fingers, or maybe not. Blanca being Blanca may manage to fix herself by Tuesday evening and break out from the Patio by eating through the floor.
By the way, this is how a bathtub looks after two ducks were ducking around in there:
Note the "bathtub ring" - that is the duck preening oil from one tub-session. Agressive floor cleaner is necessary to remove that. I am so glad i have an older steel-tub and not one of the modern plastic things!![]()
