My Runner drake is the same he always lets his ladies eat first. What is so cute is in the evening he will go in with some of his ladies then if some are still out he will go get the rest. My 2 young Runner drakes could care less.

So yesterday there were crows in the kiddie pool with the ducks. So one crow would distract the gander, head down chasing it while the crow went just fast enough and the rest went behind the gander and climed in with the ducks. Then another crow would take gander duty. I wish I had my camera it was hysterical.

I'm thinking a boot, like you said, to help support and immobilize her ankle. It probably felt better after the bath, but when she's been on it for a while it may just 'give out'.

Taking her to the vet for an examination and maybe an xray if at all possible would be the way to go then you will know for sure what is going on and hopefully correct it. I would think eventually she will lose all use if she keeps pon the way she is. Just my 2 cents.

Let's see what the doctor's verdict will be. I'm nervous...
I have not been able to imagine how to build something like an ankle brace for a grown up duck that she wouldn't be able to pull off and/or shred to pieces in those three weeks.

Our fancy drake is always the last to eat, he lets the ladies have a go at the bowl first and then wraps it up. Is this general behavior or is he just such a gentleman? I would guess general, part of taking care of the flock?

That is why in my humble opinion it is necessary to have a drake in the flock. Drakes are the watch-towers securing the area while the ducks are foraging and distracted. If there is no drake, one of the females will slip into the drake role, which i don't think is good for her health.

Nope, they don't carry those. All i have ever found are those below on Amazing. The soft ones would not withstand Blanca's wreath for seconds and the hard ones look really uncomfortable - and also will be destroyed by her…

You need to put an Elizabethan collar (cone of shame) on her! But you may not have enough limbs left afterwards...

It was a lot of work and took me almost an hour, but I managed to get the dux off the pond again yesterday. I had to use both RC-boats, a white PVC pipe as a make-shift fence, two laser-pointers and a 2x1 with a plastic bag attached as a flag… and a lot of running, waving and cursing…
And they are not happy:

Today Blanca Duck will see a veterinarian and i cannot let Chapo Duckman stay alone on the porch while we are away, so the whole flock needs to be contained around the house. And depending on the veterinarian's opinion Blanca might join the flock too, but also must not go back to the pond immediately, so they all will have to stay down here for a while.

I tried to cast one of these, but made a mistake when mixing the concrete, so it stayed soft…
Blanca has become a master of unwrapping herself out of towels. I place her on a towel, flip one half over her back, and by the time i grab the other half she has flopped the towel off her back already. And it seems the strength magically returns to her right leg when finally wrapped successfully. The vet will have a hard time with her…
