my 3 ducklings that are with Frankie gosling will be 6 weeks old when my broody chicken Stella hatches out the duck eggs she is sitting on. I hope to move the bigguns outside at that time…

They are KC but in their first, pre-puberty feathers when they are supposed to look "generic", mallard-like. One is female and the other maybe not.

Thanks. If my Rouen ducks had black bills and would quack I would have thought for sure they were hens but with the green bills and black rumps and peeps, I am almost positive they have to be drakes. I hope both of yours are females.

I could always tell my KC males by the dark rumps and of course their behavior, lol.

I think we'll need to wait 3 months more for the "real", nuptial feather coat to appear. But a long time before that, just about now or soonish, it should be possible to tell by their voices. That's why I'm saying one is definitely a lady.

thanks for asking I have been so so so busy the past few days I am barely able to get online but I wanted to post a question in the goose section and ask are there any other vitamins i can give him to help his legs besides the b complex? should i get a tube of horse selenium ? vitamins e maybe? anything else?
i’ve been wondering if he’s in pain or not the cries that he makes when he’s walking I think they’re normal Gosling sounds ? i think that because when Trudy is nearby She doesn’t seem distressed by them. I’ve been watching him a lot sitting outside now. I have a little outdoor covered pen safe from hawks or crows and mom and dad can sit nearby . frankie does a lot of sitting down to rest. i wonder does that mean there is pain.?It seems possibly out of frustration trying to walk from the water to the food and he can’t get in the little swimming bowl unless he falls in and almost drowns , so he gives up trying and lays down. so I’ve been watching carefully, really hoping that when his wings grow, he will use them to help himself get around. I don’t know. I keep crying when I think about the possibility of his quality of life being poor enough that I would need to put him down because that would be so hard he’s a fuzzy little baby that loves snuggles
