lol why why. my white layers are very similar. They are walking slower and sometimes need rest in ducky hospital room too. they are 8 years old and weight almost as much as Chubbs. not very different imo. they also have laying issues as they are. i think because they are bred to lay so much, they have issues in older age.

Blanca Duck (White Layer) is one of my oldest ducks, over five years old and she frequently breaks the sound-barrier for food. No problems with feet, legs or hip at all - except when she became hypothermic this winter, but that was neurological. - I am sure she is no longer laying, as she sometimes grows a drake-like feather.

AS the days are lengthening here, the ducks are paying rent providing 2 eggs aday out of 3 ducks, the 5 chooks are yet to begin and are still free loading. It's also fox season, they have begun watching the human activity, even going so far as practicing their whistling outside our irish workers cottage while they were watching a horror movie just to watch them almost hit the ceiling jumping with fright.

Four to six eggs from - i have no clue how many - ducks.
I assume most of them have stopped laying due to the dry and hot weather. Never though i would say this: "Little Debbie can you swing by and dump some of your rain-water here, please?"
The creek at the bottom of my hill is dry, water-level in the duck pond is falling, many trees show signs of drought stress and today there almost wasn't enough pressure to push the water up to my garden.
This is what we were looking last week:

That red x is my approximate location, so we're in D2-Severe Drought. Thursday comes the update and i don't think it'll look any better.

Meanwhile, between the heat and the humidity, it's been a sauna here and nothing was drying. Back to lower temps this week though. Even turned the heater on this morning.

Rained off and on yesterday. I think the duck pen is now a permanent mud hole. I keep feeding it shavings and straw and ground level is rising, lol

I know your back hurts...!
But if you can dig out everything from the duck-pen, pile it up and cover it with a tarp, it will turn into the best compost withing two to three months.
Then fill up the duck-pen with fresh material, wood-chips, straw so iut might dry up.
That's what i do with my duck-run. I am ½ through with the run and ¼ with the duck house. I remove a small stripe of dung from the duck-run at one time and fill up[ the trench with used bedding from the duck-house. Whenever i have completed one of the four rooms in the duck house it'll be restocked with fresh straw.
My "excuse" isn't my back, but the main engine has started to sputter under high load and in hot weather…
So i go one wheelbarrow at the time.

i have 2 white layers who are 8 years old, and one pekin who is 6 ,( she’s big and does eat alot her name is Chubbs)
my 2 new little pekins are “standard” pekins , they are small , only 4 - 5 pounds

It's in the plans, but we may also be relocating the ducks so I've been procrastinating.

Today, I'm working on the bunny relocation.
