First night in the duck house -- the report

The ducks were terrified... They are not familiar with the concept of a duck house, they spent all their life so far in big apple crates.

In the morning they would not go out. I had to come in and I thought OK so now they will run out through the door... Yeah, no. They ran from me from corner to corner but absolutely not through the door. I had to pick up each one individually and shove them outside.

This is gonna be such fun in the evening...

I tried not to laugh, but I just love how with birds are scared all common sense turns off in their little brains

If you have, put down some cardboard-boxes with the opening on the side, they might be scared about no cover above their heads.
Or add a table or chair or something else that they can sit under.
Poor duckies! 🧡

Day 2 and still no getting out of the house in the morning. While in the garage they were impatient to get out, jumping out of apple crates and sitting on the shelves to greet me. It's really quite unusual.

I'll let them figure it out for a couple more hours but if there's no progress I'll have to boot them out one by one again as it's going to be a very hot day again and all their food/water is outside (and should remain so). It's also clearly visible from the house.

It just proves the fact that ducks do not like change. lol

can you put the apple crates inside the new duck house?

Such a great setup you made for them. They look like Happy Ducks to me!!!

So true. I had bought two bags of crushed corn cob bedding to throw in my ducks pens to cut down on the mud at the entrance way. I did it when they were out of the pen. When time to put them back in the pen, they all headed for another section of the pen away from it. I was surprised though that once they started that way with so many of them some decided to give it a try and then they all did. Now they are fine with it as they know it's better than mud. lol
