I just found this. I'm sure you've already done the deed. I had this happen once. It had pipped the egg but didn't go any farther. So I opened it up and found it didn't have a skull. It's brain was exposed. I thought it was dead till I touched it to see if it was a growth or it's brain. It had to be the brain because there was no skull. I could see where the brain was coming through the top of the head. When I touched it, it started to move. I culled it immediately. No need for it to suffer because it was evident it wouldn't make it.
