Warning for E coli in tractor supply feed!

The one that ticked me off the most was the mold in the feed sack. Mold is a chicken killer.
I talked to the feed store manager about it and he acknowledged that employees sometimes dont rotate the feed sacks and check dates on tags.
He was apologetic and I didnt hold it against him nor his employees. I'm still a customer at his feed store.
It happens, and it pays to be observant on our part.

Two died a day after each other than four got sick two of those died two recovered than the next morning most died one got sick but recovered. So it was pretty much all at once

Some had symptoms some just dropped dead. The ones with symptoms had pretty severe symptoms by the time I got them and one of the ones who recovered is still wobbly but is otherwise fine.

Don't you check the dates on tags before you buy?

The sack was a month old and had been on the bottom of a pallet and had gotten wet somehow. I felt the wetness and shouldve opened the sack on the spot, but didnt. Lesson learned.

E coli from either Dumor or Pride Producers layer pellets killed half my flock, in Texas. I'm not sure exactly which one since both brands were in the barrel. Just a heads-up for people who use these brands and get any birds who die tested for E coli after using these to report. I'd hate for this to happen to more people!

That's a lot of birds dying in a short period. I'm truly sorry for your loss. And thank you for informing the community and what to look out for.

I store it in closed food barrels. I didn't know about the E coli until a few weeks later they go through two 50 lb bags in three days. The food from the bag wasn't tested but the food in the crop and stomach was. As I said I'm just going by what the coroner said. I had them all quarantined to an emergency pen with bottled water once the first one died. The only thing I hadn't changed was the food because I didn't expect that at all.

I'm no vet, but this sounds just about as accurate as its going to get. I believe the Op.

Guys you are all missing that all chickens naturally have e coli in their gut.
