That's not a chicken coop ... That's a Work of ART!
This build is definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you have good carpentry skills, it sure looks worth the effort! Bonus points for the drill video, the sketches and the supply list ... and I absolurtely LOVE the concrete floor with a sand pit in the middle. I am SO "borrowing" the idea for my auxiliary coop!

If you can't put a pony in that horse stall, then chickens are the next logical choice! What a great way to repurpose the extra space - and at a super low out-of-pocket cost. A few extra pics (inside and out) would go a long way towards helping someone else do a similar rebuild. Kudos for your eggsellent reuse/recycle project!

There are some good money-saving ideas here - like converting a ready-made shed instead of building from scratch. I especially like the idea of an over-wide run-door. I wish I'd thought of the width of my wheelbarrow before I'd installed my doors ... it sure would have saved some effort!

Wow! This is not so much an aricle as it is a list of links. Someone did their homework ... and ours along with it. What a great Short-List for those of us looking for inspiration!

Oh Good Heavens ... This is EGGcellent! A creative use of scraps and know-how. ... and encouragement to let your creativity loose when designing a home for your birds. Who says coops all have to look the same?
Oh - and the pictures and running commentary are great, too!

What a great set-up! There is a LOT of light in this coop - real windows! Having a couple of years of "change and adjustment" notes is a big help, as is the "What I'd do differently" comments. The best part of this whole build, though, at least in my opinion, is the addition of the chair. There is absolutely no better place to observe our biddies than from a front row seat ... and you can't get any more "front-row" than inside the run!

Whatever the reason, be it a sick bird, a surprise broody or (guilty as charged) a moment of weakness at the feed store chick bins, we someimes need fast, cheap housing ... yesterday! We've all been there and we usually manage, but this poster shows a quick, easy and yes, inexpensive, way to convert a dog kennel to a small, temporary coop. I learned, years ago, never to pass up a good dog crate at a yard sale. You never know when one of those feed store chicks is going to wink at you ... and you need to be ready!

CALLING ALL INTIMIDATED DIY-ers!
There's not much "How To" in this article, but there's a LOT of heart and a good story (as well as a some nice pictures) to make up for it. This very nice set-up is proof that we don't have to be carpenters, engineers or independently wealthy to have a nice coop. VERY nice job!

This would be an excellent coop for areas with large predators! While the welding DIY is not for everyone, it certainly makes for a solid-looking coop. I partly agree with the poster that the skirts would be better on the outside, but that would seriously cut down on the coop's mobility. Perhaps some hinged skirt panels on the outside, ones that could be clipped up while moving, would do the trick.
Overall, I REALLY like this design! Some minor tweaking might even make it marketable for high-predator areas. Nice job!

Thank you! I agree about the skirt. I believe that is why we put it on the inside, but am honestly not entirely sure why we put it there. If I did it again, and I think I will for my ducks, much longer though, thank I would put the skirt in the outside, and the hinge idea is great! I'll definitely consider that for our next build. Thank you for the feedback!

Okay Chickeneers ... get your GEEK on! This coop and run article is an engineer's dream! It's well written and seriously and beautifully over-engineered ... right down to the 3D printed roost bar supports. I LOVE this set-up ... and am seriously envious of the results!

What a grand coop and run! Starting with a custom-built playhouse and moving on from there. Fixing the "Happy Fingers" typos would make this a much easier read, but overall ... a really nice job. I LOVE the picture of the four "roosters" in the loft!

This is more of a review on the Omlet Eglu Cube coop and run than a coop build, but the flock description and pictures make it a nice read. Pretty Babies!

VERY nice coop. Looks very secure. Good picture of a simple door, as well. There is not much information on the actual build, but the pictures speak for themselves, so it works! Nice job.

This isn't just a great way to repurpose a piece of furniture ... it's one of the COOLEST coops I've seen. The pictures showing various build-steps are good and the test is helpful and easy to follow. A few more construction details would be nice, but not necessarily required. The article stand well on its' own, as is.
But now comes The Big Question ... How did the vote go?

The coop description is nice, but the real gem of this article is the description on handling ex-battery hens. It's well thought out and clearly written and covers points from preparing to pick them up to getting them into shape. The behavior observations are particularly good - who would have thought that chickens need to learn how to perch?
Nice Job!

WOW! The before and after photographs are amazing ... what a difference! Listing the source for the hard-to-find hardware cloth is a nice bonus. A parts list and cost estimate would be helpful, but the pictures speak loudly for themselves. Nice job!
