My coop started off as a 6x6 shed and we very very quickly outgrew it. Darn chicken math! I knew I needed something more than what I had. My flock consisted of meat birds, layer pullets and ducks, guineas, and we are adding in peafowl. I knew the coop needed to be in two seperate areas. One for...

Sure has been a while since I have been on here. School started and I am super busy with that 4 days a week and then studying and such. We started the barn addition a couple weeks ago and that is going smooth too. I do have two roosters (bantam Cubalayas) if anyone would be interested in them...

BL4 - he did get some milk out. We fed some of the milk to calves, but we also feed milk replacer and this tastes way different to the calves that they didn't want too much of it... We ship to Swiss Valley (they are in Dubuque, IA). Neighbors barn is on fire. It's a total loss. Milk parlor...

Quote: Oh TO... and BL4. That is a TON of milk. Like a lot. Our cows milk about 50-60lbs per day, per cow, so that is about 25-30lbs per milking. I know I felt bad for the girls, hubby milked some by hand (2 five gallon buckets full) - but he can't do it all - he said his hands were dyin! He...

H&R - glad to hear that you are going to be okay and it wasn't a break! But I bet it hurts just the same... Well - what a long day today was. We have been without power since 8am. Bad storms rolled through about them, finally just getting the power back on and the cows going in the barn. three...

Where do you get your raw milk from? We dairy farm and from what we understand is it is illegal to sell any raw milk to consumers. I guess if you are not paying for it... Just curious - as we would love to sell raw milk. So much better for you than store bought... we do send ours to Swiss Valley...

So..... long weekend. Harvested some more tomaters from the garden - made up some spaghetti sauce this time. Got some corn for supper every night this weekend too. We butched apart our huge huge huge lilac bush so that it can replenish itself. Come to find out there was some sort of "weed of the...

I am new to peafowl and mine are quite young yet. I have one that is approx 3-4 months old. Was wondering if the females make that shrill sound or if only the males do? I am trying to determine if I have a male or female on my hands The other two I have are only a couple weeks old. The oldest...

Oh - and speaking of my little hound - here he is. His name is Dibbs. My grandparents always had basset hounds for as long as I can remember. My grandpa (and grandma) passed away 2 years ago and my grandpas nickname was Dibbs. So.... that's how he got his name. And sometimes I really wonder if...
