"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

Started incubating 20 eggs on March 17th hatched the first on the 7th the second the 8th and third the 9th. The third had the zip three quarters of the way around and somehow had flipped around to the other end. I believe number two gave it a really hard kick with its sharp toes. Anyway had to...

"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

This morning I checked on my third chick before going to work it's little wing was out but nothing else was and the very back of the egg was still not zipped. I took it out and found it had both somehow turned it's head in the opposite end of the egg and it had a double membrane. I took a little...

"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

Update on my babies. Prime is happy as a clam in the brooder. And second went in with it early this morning after I heard a pained chirp in the bator. One lil fella is still in his two piece shell and the second had been kicking it. Trey is still laying in there chirping and several have pips...

"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

The newly hatched are vicious. My first hatched about 1:30 yesterday and I had to remove it at 8 last night. It kept stomping on the second ones head. The second was only two hours old. I was scared that I had shrink-wrapped everyone else in there. So far I still have chirping so hopefully more...

Prime decided to bounce on seconds head so I opened up quickly and removed it added more water and shut the bator quick. saw several more pips and hope that I haven't hurt the rest. That first one is six hours older and just kept bouncing on the other. Sign of a boy? lol

Woke up this morning to the sound of tiny cheeps and one visible pip. Eggscited and very nervous. My last hatch went to this point and then total failure. Fingers crossed. T and Humidity holding steady.

Hi I'm on day 20 of my third attempt at hatching. temp has stayed at 99.5 +or- .2 humidity up til day 18 was at 40 and raised to 60-70% at 18. Haven't heard anything yet and decided I needed a little something to keep me breathing and not touching the bator. Tell me something should come out...

    Late Feburary-Early March 2016 Hatch-A-Long!

I'm starting a new hatch today. Hoping third try is the charm. Using a thermometer that has worked for a friend many times. So good luck friends and I will ask for help if things don't go right and let you all happy dance with me if they do. Here's hoping for many happy hatchings.

    Late Feburary-Early March 2016 Hatch-A-Long!

Using a Janoel 12 incubator. The instruction manual that came with it sucks big time but One of BYC members wrote better instructions on one of the threads here. I'm beginning to wonder if the fact the Janoel only has one vent may have something to do with the problem. I might drill a small...
